I have only seen Bae Doo Na in Stranger. And I want her character in Kingdom to be badass like in Stranger. I…
She was pretty badass the entire time - over two seasons - in my opinion. She wasn't actually calm or quiet for no reason - she was thoughtful and self-reliant and followed through on her plans. She was no shrinking violet and I'd want her brains with me in a fight.

The ending was pretty clear, I thought. The CP, Seo Bi and the others are searching the country for the flowers and to try to figure out the cause of the epidemic, to keep it from ever happening again. He could never do that if he was king - he would be stuck in the palace.
In the last year there have been more than dozen dramas where the male lead is much older example Eve, Bulgasal,…
Because misogyny is alive and well, and we women often participate in it too, not realizing - or even caring at times - how it hurts everyone, regardless of gender and orientation. And your comment about how we ALL age eventually is spot on.
but their voices are soooo sexy tho. plus its cheaper. and there are some actors i tbh would much rather they…
We can agree to disagree here - I don’t need to hear dubbed breathing, it’s always too loud. And they seem to always sound the same - I like variety in an actor’s voice, it’s what gives the performance color and tone.
Is that worse than someone rating it a 6 after one episode like in other dramas on here?
I actually 100% agree with you! I hate when shows get rated so quickly! But in the case of J-dramas, they're rated lower than other dramas for whatever reason, so I guess I would rather have someone rate it a 10 after one episode than the usual 6 or 7.
Viki just started streaming Emperor or Boss, which is a Chinese drama 2021 featuring time travel. My favorite Chinese drama to date is Legally Romance, which also has some time travel elements to it. (My understanding is to get around the censors for LR, they changed the story some from the source material (novel) but it didn't matter to me personally since I loved the resulting drama.) I love what you said about how the censors break their own rules sometimes. Does anyone know if they've done the same thing with Emperor or Boss?
While I REALLY hate the censorship in C-dramas, especially around LGBTQ+ issues, but what bothers me the most about C-dramas is actually the dubbing! I find it so unnatural sounding and it takes away from my enjoyment of the drama. So I just look for dramas that either haven't been dubbed or they've left the main characters' voices alone.
This was an incredibly interesting and well-written article - thank you very much! I'd love to see the Japanese and/or Korean versions next.
Pretty sure it's a cultural thing. I remember seeing a few straight jdramas with no kiss scenes. It could also…
Maybe it's because the main actor is only 18? I've seen several other dramas with younger actors that don't contain a lot of skinship. (In my culture 18 is an adult, but other cultures are different.)
