I can not be the only one who is disturbed by the fact that the gay plotline started with RAPE and not a word was said about it in the movie? Are we normalizing rape as a way to start relationships now? Or maybe that's just the way people in that demographic do things? I dunno but I just couldn't find anything legimitate about that union given those circumstances.
New York is known for their racism towards Asians specifically...so many people were randomly hitting/punching…
And you think the Democratic party & its leadership is so much better? Right now they're a party to the atrocious genocide taking place in occupied Palestine. They have as much contributed to widespread division in the country with their fascistic, mob-like, gender ideology that defies common sense, logic and reality. As a black person, the democratic party has systematically enacted policies that decimate African American progress, ie widespread & unchecked illegal immigration that mostly affect poor black communities because of the influx of cheap labour. Manufacturing jobs & low skilled professions that had a semi-decent wage 20 years go & which poor demographics, including AAs, depended on to feed their families, have all disappeared, taken over by cheap labour from Mexico & El Salvador. The democratic party & the republicans are two sides the same coin. So if you're going to condemn one, make sure you also condemn the other.
And no, I am not a Republican, nor a Trump supporter. What I am is an independent thinker & I don't let bi-partisan politics fool me into not seeing what's going on. The US has not be a true democrasy for a long time. The country is not being run for the good of its people, but by power hungry globalists with a God complex. We're in a whole heap of trouble & most people don't seem to get it.

Well, isn't that how Asians have been positioning themselves for ... ages??? As being approximate to white and wanting to be accepted by the white establishment?? I am by no means condoning hatred toward any ethic group; I am also for fair treatment overall, but let's not pretend like a lot of Asians don't go out of their way to align themselves to whiteness as much as possible. So if & when schools like Havard perceive Asians the way they've positioned themselves to be perceived, don't complain about it. It is what they all wanted. So just take the good with the bad. Every "privilege" comes with pros & cons.
I seen Oh Min Suk in “All About My Mom” and he seems to play characters that are lifeless, I think that’s…
I actually liked his character in All About My Mom, but I agree that in this drama his character is rather unremarkable and I have no interest in his storyline with the lawyer. This is one of the reasons why I put it on hold for a number of years now.
what is the screeching and makjang bullshit level of this show tho? Asking for a frie... me 😂
I watched only about 10 episodes before I put it on hold, but I remember the youngest brother was rather annoying with all his screeching and makjang behaviour.
One of the best dramas to rewatch. However I agree with comments below - 2ML and NJ's plots were unnecessary.…
Yup, this is a major pet peeve of mine in Asian dramas, but K-dramas specifically because they practice a whole other form of censorship that is weirder than the countries, imo. In C-dramas, they want to give you a realistic depiction of a romantic relationship, but the censorship is super strict in China. This is proven by the fact that a lot of intimate scenes - deep kissing, stimulated sex/bed scenes etc (nothing extreme by Western standards, but still too daring for their society) usually get cut from C-dramas, but then get posted on YouTube. So we know C-drama makers are not prudes, their content is just highly regulated.
In Japan, there is hardly any realistic depiction of love, romance & intimacy between couples outside of dramas that are specifically about this theme (usually dramas about teen/young love), and even then there is sometimes a lot of awkward restraint & distance between the characters that belie true romantic relationships. I actually think, though, that this has a broader cultural connotation, given that Japan has become a largely sexless society where a huge portion of the population struggle with isolation & lack of human connection. Their birth rates have become so abyssmally low & have been rapidly declining for decades because their culture is rigid with social protocols that are uniquely susceptible to the worst of capitalism - materialism, consumerism, transactional relationships (narcissism) so naturally human intimacy declines in such an environment. And naturally that would bleed into their dramas because that is a realistic depiction of their lived experience. So it's not that J-drama makers are prudes either. They're not afraid to show love & sex & Japan doesnt seem to have the same type of uber strict censorship like in China, but it's awkward to show real intimate relationships on screen when such relationships in real life are just as awkward & or non-existent.
One can argue that the same conditions exist in Korea, but not quite. The mindset of Koreans is very westernized, more so than China & Japan. I would say. In real life, Koreans aren't sexless. I was surprised at the amount of PDA I witnessed in Korea when I visited there because K-dramas would have you think people don't have relationships or are intimate with each other, and certainly not in public. But oh no, I travelled all over the country & saw couples, mostly of all ages, expressing PDA. But, in stark contrast to C & J dramas, the Koreans way of dealing with the censorship is to choose a totally prudish route when depicting relationships. They think that by portraying the characters as prudes (never being interested in sex/relationships, thinking such acts are beneath them) it makes them seem more "righteous & upright". But in truth it does the opposite - it makes the whole story & characters seem ridiculous because you know that's not true to life.
Grown ass adults never having relationships or sex when they're damn near pushing 40, not real ... like at all. Sure, are there probably some 20, 30 and 40 somethings who have remained celibate all their lives? Yes, I'm sure of it, but I'd give up a month's worth of income that it isn't the majority, so to depict grown adults in this way in pretty much EVERY drama (unless the specific theme of the drama is about sex & relationship), has always been very ridiculous and annoying to me. I just finished watching a drama with some badass military guys talking about they're not interested in women or sex. Mind you, they're not gay. They just shun sex & relationships because it is apparently "beneath them" to engage in such acts. Now if this was a drama about people pursuiting a higher purpose to the exclusion of all other pursuits, then it would make sense. But this wasn't that kind of drama. Those guys saying nonsense like that made absolutely no sense to who they were as people & the circumstances they found themselves in. It was pure stupidity & an insult to the intelligence of the viewing audience. I thought that 12 yrs after I first started watching dramas that Korean writers would evolve beyond this need to remove all sexuality from their characters, but nope, this trope is still alive and well in 2024, aside from rare exceptions. It's maddening as hell! LOL
can someone explain to me the end with the doctor and sang wook??
Ki-Young's fiance, Sang Won, was apparently friends with the scientist, but that slippery bastard experimented on him (Sang Won) and left him in a vegetative state. Human Sang Won is pretty much dead, but his monster is alive. His monster inhabits the body of Gangpe Ahjussi (Sang Wook) and in that last episode is about to take revenge on the scientist. That's why he (Sang Won in Sang Wook's body) showed the scientist his (Sang Won's) body in the container filled with water. He's showing the scientist what he did to him & warning him that he's going to pay for his betrayal.
seriously, I prefer it that way lol. 😭 that's what I am into and that's what I want to see more. but I think…
Why can't we have romance mixed in with other genres? Why only romance or none at all? That's not how life works. I don't mind an occasional rom-com, but it's not my favourite genre. I love action, crime, thriller etc with romance. Without romance these genres are good, but with romance they're better imo. I become more invested.
Sacrificing one for another and having one's back may help you develop feelings for each other don't you think?…
Not everyone takes forever to fall in love. Extraordinary circumstances can & do push people together romantically because it heightens the emotions. People might be seeking comfort and/or escape from the world around them or if they think they're going to die soon. It seems like you people only want to see romance in a strictly romance drama, but you can walk and talk at the same time. In other other words, it's great when there's a mixture of genres in one and the same drama.
Holy shit, this show is woke/feminist to the core. (Epitome Ep7 Min 4:35-6:20)The men are either cowards, scumbags,…
What??? This is a completely inaccurate characterisation of the show. If this show had even the slightest bit of feminist propaganda in it, I would have dropped it. Seriously. I hate that shit. But this drama is neither feminist nor woke, at least not in the Western context of those words. Does it have some progressive ideas? A little, but it's subtle and not done in a preachy, over the top way like in Western shows (ie The Witcher ... which was totally ruined for being exactly too woke & cloyingly (stupidly) feminist).
SWEET HOME depicts very well a balance of temperament in characters of both genders. I liked how the drama was able to show both strong male and female characters, all with their own unique capabilities and strengths, as well as characters of both genders who were more passive & needed protection. The female characters were not haughty & ball-busting, trying to outcompete the men. Rather they worked together organically, as men & women are meant to, for the good of the group.
You have a female lead who was very capable and an asset to the team, but she wasn't the leader even though she has the skills to take on that role. She stepped up & did her part when she had to, but she understood her place in the hierarchy, and thus, knew when to step back and follow the lead of others. She shows vulnerability and feminity. She's not infallible. She is the epitome of what a real strong female character is. And I love the show for that, because I hate most female characters that are touted as "strong" these days, but who really are just obnoxious & insufferable.
And sure, you had a few mouthy female characters who liked pretending to be tough (the operative word here being pretending), but when push come to shove, they knew their positions. If this was a Western show, the women would be acting all butch, while all the men are relegated to passivity so she can shine. There is never any balance of strength between the genders in Western shows. For them, there can only be one Alpha.
Korean shows overall tend to have a better grasp of gender politics, even though they're not always perfect. You're not going to have short, 120lb/50kg women doing hand to hand combat with a man twice her size. Moreover, in a real distopian world, we all know it will not be women taking the lead. It will be men. But capable women will always be there to assist, just as is shown in this drama. An odd few females may end up on the frontlines, but that will really be an odd few, not the majority. I've all but quit watching Western shows except for a few because they've all turn to shit because of leftist, feminist propaganda. Korean shows may be heading that way too, but not yet. And thank fuck for that!
I see a lot of comments talking about age here. That being said what does it matter? We all have preferences why…
You must not have been on MDL long. I've been on here for over 12 years. There is no double standard. Both om/yo and ow/ym dramas get harped on because of the age gap. Both have their fans and anti-fans. However, in general ow/ym fare better on MDL than the opposite. This is because dramas attract a mostly female audience & I believe MDL also has a mostly female user group. And it's usually the subset of females (and males) who tend to have a female bias (not all women have a female bias just because they're female & not all men have a male bias just because they're male). So any drama that they percieve give the ML an edge over the FL, tend to get a lot of moaning complainers on its drama page.
You are obviously a male with a female bias and a comfirmation bias - 1) since you have a female bias, you get offended when the female actors "get attacked" and 2) because of this you have a need to confirm this bias so you go around looking for people "attacking actresses" then assume that is the standard. It is not the standard. The older man younger woman dramas get more criticism. And just so you know, BOTH men and women suffer and benefit from double standards. That's how life works. Women do not have a monopoly on victimhood, as people like you seem to think.
I didn't drop the film. In fact, I quite enjoyed it. And I'm very aware that 65 yr olds have sex. My comment was meant as tongue in cheek. The "haha" at the end was supposed to clue you in.
Would we even ask the question about freedom if it was a man having an affair while married and abandoning his…
I don't understand the comment. But let me just say, double standards are a part of life & affect all faucets of our existence. Everyone deals with them and are affected by them, not just women. I am a woman AND black, so I know. We deal with it or take it up with God. Nobody ever complains about double standards that benefit women, but disadvantage men. The mindset of women getting a pass for immoral and wrongful behaviour just because men do it too is toxic and enabling. You'll never see me endorsing that.
Ok, so I didn't read all of what you wrote because I don't want to be spoiled anymore. I read a bit and found…
Haha, girl you can say that again! I like his broody demeanor and when he smiles! Have you seen Love Designer? The lead guy there is also fine AF ... and Dilreba is very pretty so they had wicked chemistry! Someone else also said it was a happy ending so fingers crossed. The Chinese are usually good at giving a happy ending to romance dramas (unlike the Japanese who are notorious for killing off one of the leads or breaking them up. Same goes for the Koreans to an extent).
