It's not a matter of taste, a guy without charisma and power IS boring, no one cares about how nice he is!! What distinguishes guys? it's the charisma and leadership of alpha males, any other guy out there be it nice, dumb, cutiepie who is beta is just another guy out there!

I don't know how this kind of alpha male image is there in your mind but being alpha male doesn't mean being those things, anyone can be greedy, narcissist, and mean. Those aren't traits they are faulty characteristics!
The comparison you provided is quite not up to bar, any girl who is beautiful but lacks personality will mostly get guys, but she'll only get those who are after her body and once that body is not charming enough no one will want her bc " Personality " is not there.
This applies to girls too, if she is too nice for her own good, she'll get guys but it will get boring pretty fast, being nice is one thing, and being kind is another thing. And all of my observation of second leads has been this: They are way too nice, it's actually not interesting enough, they are somehow submissive which is a big turn off and so on. I hope you got it!!
I see it as a matter of Alpha male VS. Beta male! usually the second lead is a beta male while the first lead is an alpha male with so much power/charisma. No matter how nice the guys are if they lack charisma/power they are just another guy out there.

I guess they intended this kind of ending to increase the possibility of 2nd season

I also hated Wato, she ruined the show for me.
As for sherlock, there were two hints of her being alive:
1- Reimon said to Shibata he got fired from the cleaning company for using the elevator unauthorized, this suggests that Sherlock used the elevator to reach the ground.
2- Her walking towards Wato at the end is a strong evidence.
What was her revenge? making Naomi hers? but Yuri couldn't careless because all she wanted was Mayu's life. The whole revenge was pointless. A better suiting revenge would've been leading better marital life than Yuri's because she can't stand happy Mayu.
