We're almost halfway through the series and my primary thought is while it's not as epic as the sequel, it's still pretty enjoyable imo.
What I really like: * Bromance and comedy are on point * Nice cinematography * Fight scenes are well-executed, visually pleasing, full of badassery- I approved! * The pretty (that's my shallow side talking here😏) 'Dashing Youth' is for sure living up to its name haha Fav characters: Ye Ding Zhi, Sikong Chang Feng, Shifu Li Chang Sheng, Liu Yue, Xiao Ruo Feng and Su Mu Yu (despite the lack of screentime😔)
The meh: *Our hero Baili Dongjun (don't kill me xD) I have yet to warm up to his character. Neo is handsome to look at but there's something missing, I can't really pinpoint what exactly but I don't feel any connection with his character and that bugs me tbh (he reminds me of Luffy in One Piece, he's the MC but I like everyone else better)...In TBOY , it was the opposite, Li Hong Yi totally sold me his character from the get-go. I still hope I will come to like him.
*Romance feels rather forced but it was the same in TBOY. I'm not feeling Dongjun and Yue Yao as the main CP...Yue Yao has even more chemistry with her shifu Liu Yue and Qixuan. Other CPs are okayish, nothing groundbreaking... granted that's not really what I'm looking for when I watch that kind of series. Still I'm curious about our second CP's backstory since they're the parents of my beloved Wu Xin.
*Lei Meng Sha, Lei Meng Sha...I have mixed feelings about him (it was the same with his son in the sequel). Sometimes I like him and sometimes I don't. I like his laidback personality and all but he's really overdoing the laughter thing...it looks fake and annoying imo. Now that I think about it, Wu Jie was more palatable as a character (silly but still endearing)
Going to wait until ep 14 has better subs. Subs for 13 were normal so why not for 14?

I'm still pissed after seeing those leaks and utterly disappointed...I can't believe production thought it was a great idea to cheapen his character to such extent. They just chickened out because God forbids a ML to act in such an immoral/erratic way pftt .Cang Xuan's unhinged and conflicted nature is what makes his character interesting/appealing in the first place in the novel..and don't get me started with Jing's treatment in part 2...that's laughable to say the least *rolleyes* First part was almost legendary, this one hmmm not so much...I'm so ready for it to end tbh. My rating will for sure reflect the disappointment I have with that second part.
