Just one word: Masterpiece. Stellar acting, amazing writing, an epic tale about two half-brothers becoming at odds with each other, fighting for their beliefs in the midst of those ever changing turbulent times. Yoon Shi Yoon as Baek Yi Hyun was my personal favorite but everyone was fantastic and delivered top-notch performances.
Best sageuk of 2019 and will easily go down as a favorite of mine for this year. Final rating: 9.5/10 <3
I agree with you, better than SITR, I think the biggest change, in my opinion is the female lead, she wasnt annoying…
Yeah, agree, FL was more likeable in this one. In SITR, she was wishy-washy and fickle (dropped the drama for that very reason...this and the crazy mother) OST Part 5 is a song from Carla Bruni :) (Title: Spring Waltz)
It could have been so much better. That's the first thought which crossed my mind after completing this drama. Charming premise, beautiful OST, stunning cinematography and lovely chemistry between the leads. I fell in love at first sight, got hooked only to be underwhelmed by the ending . Writer lost her way in the second half, even becoming a little sadistic in the latter episodes, adding angst just for the sake of it (beginning of episode 15 was especially painful to watch) and forgetting at the same time to tie up all the loose ends (no explanation whatsoever on how Dan became a human in the end and what was the deity's big plan?). As a result, ending felt rushed and not completely satisfying *what a shame*. At first, I was rooting for a happy ending but looking back at the journey as a whole, a sad ending would have maybe been more fitting imo. Final rating: 7.5/10 (mainly for the OST and the chemistry) Still enjoyable nevertheless.
Way better than 'SITR'...writer greatly redeemed himself here. JHI and HJM have sweet chemistry and the parents were less annoying in this one. Great cast. Overall, I liked it. Final rating: 8/10.
Edit: my only complaint is with the OST. Production seems to love Carla Bruni's songs/music...me not that much.
Drama faltered with the death of the main lead...Kim Jung Hyun hard carried the show and Seo Hyun didn't have the acting chops and charisma to save the drama.
Cha Hyun/Scarlett is the only reason I didn't drop this show yet... she's totally awesome and badass!(minus her unhealthy obsession with Song Ga Kyung who is, by far, the worst character of this series imo *I loathe bullies and manipulative b*)
Main leads' romance is bland and unappealing... and don't get me started with the lightning *it's so blinding that even my cat is shocked everytime Park Mogun appears on my screen in lover mode lol* Btw, I'm very disappointed with Ki Yong's performance (even if in the latest episodes he redeemed himself a bit), I agree with @crystalstars' comment, it's like he's reading his lines from a prompter, so robotic and stiff :/ I really like Bae Tae Mi but only as the strong independent career woman. She's the definition of "empowered". She takes no sh!t from anybody and is highly competitive. I like that.
Pros: *Scarlett, Scarlett, Scarlett (Lee Da Hee rocks!) *Scarlett and her blossoming relationship with weekend drama actor Seol Ji Hwan (cute xD) *Scarlett/Ta Mi's teamwork *Brian is also an interesting character. Veteran actor Kwon Hae Hyo really nails this role.
Cons: *Main Leads romance, not fluttering and it looks forced...I don't feel the chemistry, not because she's 13 years older than him irl but there's just no spark between them imo (I loved 'Witch's romance and there was a 20 years age gap between the leads!) *Song Ga Kyung and her in-laws *Park Mo Gun (prince charming without much substance)
is L good in this? his acting was terrible in Master's Sun
He's decent. Like I said before, he's still uneven and lacks nuance but he's definitely improved since his last projects and has his moments. As for me, I don't find him as horrible/terrible as some persons are trying to make him out to be...if it doesn't bother me, I take it as a good sign that he's doing a good job.
I'm a hopeless romantic and chose this drama mainly for its romantic theme (and SHS, I love her)...sure, it's not groundbreaking nor a masterpiece but it's entertaining and the chemistry between the leads works just fine imo. I'm not ashamed to say that I mainly tune in for the OTP and also sassy butler Jung...rest is just the usual stuff: cartoonish villains, annoying second leads and multitude of schemes to separate/harm our lovebirds.
Acting-wise, Shin Hye Sun is mindblowing and probably the best thing about this drama but Kim Myung Soo comes out as a pleasant surprise as well. Lee Dong Gun is good (despite his character being obnoxious) but he was way better in Q7D (I loved him as the despotic king that it almost made me root for him xD) and lastly Woo Hee Jin is fantastic as Butler Jung.
I am not able to watch this drama beacuse of kim jae wook if ith had lee dong wook, park hyung sik,ji chang wook…
I mean we all have our preferences and actors we aren't particularly fond of...Kim Jae Wook is one of them but I wouldn't say he's bad either, he's just not my cup of tea acting-wise (I've known him since 'Coffee Prince'). No hard feelings.
I am not able to watch this drama beacuse of kim jae wook if ith had lee dong wook, park hyung sik,ji chang wook…
This...there are some actors/actresses I absolutely can't watch and he's one of them. Part is I'm still holding a grudge after Temperature of Love (his followers were quite harsh with Yang Se Jong *call me childish I don't care*) +his acting is dull/monotonous imo (have the same problem with Lee Sang Yoon, Joo Jin Moo and Lee Jin Wook)
May I give you an advice? You better watch and support me!xD Here for sexy and talented Lee Joon Hyuk<3 I love the cast as well! Hope it will be a satisfying remake (didn't watch the original so I won't be able to compare)
Great leads but poor writing.... PBY and AHS were awfully cute together and really help made the watching experience more bearable. They sure were the best thing about this drama and deserved a better script.
Lord Hwang is still alive?!? I thought (rather hoped) he was dead after the slaughter that happened at his house... I hate his character, he's so despicable! Hope he will get his comeuppance in the end...His stuck-up attitude and snooty face annoy me to no end!
I know we're all responsible for our own decisions/choices and actions but Lord Hwang is partly to blame for Yi Hyun's downfall into darkness. He ruined him. Yi Hyun was dragged against his will into this mess because of a family's feud and had to commit atrocities just to survive...and when he's about to suppress the monster inside him and is trying to live a normal life, his past caught up with him and left him with no choice but to escape again...I really feel sorry for him. Yi Hyun is definitely the most compelling character of this series so far. Glad Yoon Shi Yoon got the chance to play such a multi-layered character and as usual he nails it!
This is the show I'm enjoying the most at the moment (this one and 'Nokdu Flower' are my favorites) I heard many people saying Shin Hye Sun is the only saving grace of this show and though I actually started it for her, I humbly disagree...Kim Myung Soo/L may not be the best actor out there but as Kim Dan, he's giving a decent performance and have great chemistry with SHS imo (I even dare say better than the one she shared with Yang Se Jong in 'Still 17' and mind you, Se Jong is my favorite actor!)
Despite my bias and the fact I was very against L's casting at first, he pleasantly surprised me and now I can definitely see the improvement that people were talking about...still I think his acting is uneven/lacks nuance: mostly during comedic scenes I'd say, he's a bit over-the-top (sometimes he looks like a child throwing a tantrum if you know what I mean :/) but during the more emotional/serious moments, he really shines (when he's watching from afar Yeon Seo dancing on the beach or also the time he listened to halmoni's story and poured out his conflicted feelings)
That's why I think it's unfair how people are giving him flak just because he's not on par with SHS...he's obviously not at her level acting-wise (nobody says so) but fares way better than I thought he would be. SHS is just stellar as Lee Yeon Seo and is probably giving her best performance to date.
I really like it so far...no, even more than that,I'm hooked! Chemistry is on point, the OST is simply beautiful and matches perfectly the fairytale-like theme of this show<3 Shin Hye Sun nails it as usual and Kim Myung Soo as an angel is surprisingly lovable and fun to watch. Keep up the awesome work drama!
