While I understand that his character may not appeal to everyone, you can't deny that the actor playing/portraying him is good. He clearly elevates the typical/clichรฉ SML archetype making him charismatic& nuanced rather than annoying and THIS takes some skills. Give same role to anyone less skilled and I assure you that no one would give him the time of day. He is a scene stealer.
Dai Xu is imho the very definition of being not conventionally 'handsome' but his acting is very effective and do the talking here hence making him charming in the eyes of the audience imo. (already noticed him in 'The Unclouded Soul' and 'A Dream of Splendor')
Liu Yuning fall in this exact category. He might not be the most handsome guy out there but boy sure knows how to captivate his audience with just his mere presence on screen. His talent+ the fact he's hard working make up for everything else.
As for Pei Zhen, I personally didn't ship him with the FL (I was๐ฏrooting for our main CP) but I totally understand the hype. Dai Xu deserves the praise and the attention. Man is criminally underrated after all.
