Deadly Night Flame with Wang Xuan just moved to the top of the 5 versions I've seen! This version is No.2, I'm not a huge Zhao Zhen Dong fan but he had a kind of dangerous edge while flirting up a storm here & won me over 😊

Have you seen this version (Deadly Night Flame) with ML Wang Xuan yet? By far the steamiest of all 5 versions I've seen! I've posted YouTube links on the MDL page.
Another version of the “my fiancé's cheating with my actress cousin in the backseat when I crash in to his uncle's (who is actually the ex-boyfriend I dumped in college & has just returned to the country as a powerful CEO) luxury car & I now owe millions to him as well as the fiancé's family who paid my family's debts after they went bankrupt” plot. If you enjoyed this storyline & the other versions (I've seen at least 4 others), there are a few new plot twists in here, but this one focuses more on the still-sizzling chemistry between the ML & FL that leads to some rather steamy scenes!
The ML is still deeply hurt over them breaking up without what he sees as a valid reason, but remains totally head over heels for the FL years after being inexplicably dumped. He’s now in a position of power & willing to do whatever it takes to win her back, urging her to use him as her “knife” to get justice for herself & backing her up whenever she needs it. The FL obviously still has feelings for him but is trapped in a loveless engagement with a philandering fiancé she can't stand & must pay back the money she borrowed from his family to clear the debts she'd been left with.
Throw in workplace interference from the cousin & fiancé with various attempts to ruin both the FL's reputation & career, harassment from the fiancée the ML's family has chosen for business reasons, pressure from his elitist family, the mystery behind the FL's family's ruin & this plot moves along at pace!
The ML is so flirty & very honest in his pursuit of the FL & she gives as good as she gets. The chemistry between the ML & FL is evident from the opening scenes & remains strong throughout, there are some quite spicy scenes & a bit of suggestive symbolism thrown in as their relationship reignites!
The acting from both the FL & ML (anyone else getting Liu Lan Bo/Xu Kai vibes from him?) was great, the 2ML was odious (so I guess that means he did a good job too!) & the rest of the cast were solid. With a familiar storyline, decent camera work & some interesting lighting, I was oddly bothered most by a small continuity error (how can you take a drag on a cigarette, put down the cigarette, have a 2-way conversation & THEN exhale the smoke? An ex-smoker would like to know!) which I think only existed for stylistic purposes anyway. My main gripe will be unsurprising to most vertical short drama watchers, the end felt kind of rushed & had to quickly tie up a number of plot points that hadn't been properly explored, perhaps they were originally part of the script & got cut later in editing, which is a shame as they could have added more depth to the storyline. All in all, I enjoyed this version & would recommend a watch!

(Depends which YouTube channel you watch this on, subtitles/translation is different on others & has it as “I was born to be your slave”, the skirt version in this senario made me blush!)

Both actors were great, the FL was pretty straightforward & smart, she knew what she wanted & went after it. ML worked through his emotions as he gradually let his heart rule his head & always stood by her. And how nice is it to see Wang Yi Ran's beautiful smile? We don't get to see it often enough!
I hated the end. She wakes up in modern world after killing herself in the "historical" one. They never get together…
Thanks for the heads-up, I'll pass & save my time! It's a shame, I like both actors & this kind of storyline, but the ending sounds too frustrating for me to enjoy the build-up.

Yes, the ML there was Jesse Ren. I meant that the last time we saw some unexpected french kissing that got everyone talking so much (& melted our computers!) was Embrace In The Dark Night & Liu Lan Bo definitely surpassed that! 😊
