Agreed, but I guess in a way some European mistresses were like concubines without the official title . They lived at court and enjoyed popularity that comes attached to the Kings favor. Their kids do remain bastards which is awful.

From the TV series I found it interesting that Catherine and the Spanish ambassador called Anne the concubine
