This was on WeTV like five years ago, and honestly, it was one of the only Jdramas on that platform. I wanted to watch it back then, but I was busy trying to clear my Jdrama backlog. Finally got around to it… and wow, I was disappointed. The plot made zero sense.
The female lead? Yeah… she’s basically the textbook shojo manga heroine. Weak, naive, “cute,” but really just desperate for love. You know the type. The setting itself wasn’t bad—she’s a hotel cafe waitress, the male lead is this mysterious floor manager—but the characters were so generic it was laughable. I kept pausing because the cringe was too much.
Maybe this kind of drama hits for some people, but nah, not for me. 4.5/10
I feel bad for not liking this drama. Like it is not bad but ... there are a lot of cringe moments and some scenes are questionable like I really dunno why you wanna gaslight man for not showing interest in you when they are interested with someone else. Like huh? Why the guy is the red flag in that situation but not u, the girl?
Also other than 1st husband, do we really get the reasons why she was divorced with her 2nd and 3rd husbands? who are obviously still in love with her?
There are more things that make me go huh. So I found it a bit average. 6/10
Surprisingly, I was quite enjoying this though they are a little bit generic like - Suzu "entering" memory to solve crime - Naoki being her body double for detective deduction - The police being useless as usual But once you know the main plot, then it makes sense. 6.5/10
The drama tackle the work of journalism. The FL went from Gossip department to everyday mundane life department. From the get go, the FL doesn't have the steel heart to do gossip. She is very fickle and clueless. But once she transferred to different department, we will watch her growing up journalist. It was nice to watch
However, the metaphor they use, 5-meter radius i didnt really get it. It was mentioned few times in the drama but im not seeing it relevant
The other thing is I wish they explore the romance relationship between the FL and her BF more. like it is there. Sometimes they are cute. Sometimes you asking "why" watching them.
That is more of Thai BL trope. I recommend you to watch all the JBL. they are more plot centric then NC/Lust centric…
A lot of BL watchers have complained about JBL having a dead fish kiss. Seems like it is a deal breaker for those people who mostly watch BL for NC. So better be upfront about what people going to expect to see in JBL.
So I watched this after Riso no Otoko and I cannot stop comparing between them both because both have awkward mangaka as the FL love interest.
While I was enjoying the light rom-com Riso no Otoko, Renai Mangakka is a bit ... cringe. The first 3 eps were super cringey. Then it becomes better. But the last few eps are a bit meh but not bad.
I dont understand how this drama is so low. Is it because they are old people being cute? Like NGL, this is better rom-com than most late night Jdrama I have watched featuring new and younger actor/actress that simply cant act.
This drama overall is very cute. There are a lot of miscommunication due to one person just say and dash but it fits the person awkward personality. haha
though I must say, FL bff story, Marissa - I can do without her story because her story is very generic and didnt add much value
Also not in million years I would assume I will see Ando Masanobu acting cute in Rom-com. LMAO. Overall, I enjoyed this drama that it ended without me realizing it. 8.5/10
I finally have time to watch Night Doctor. Back in the day, it was one of the drama that I kept hearing to watch. But after watching it, I must say. It is quite generic
The drama use the same formula that many Jdrama have used It is a team with X number of people. Except for the team lead, each member has ep where their problem is resolved and then they become a better person. ideal over realistic. Though I must say, it was more realistic at the start where not all patients survive but toward the end, it is becoming more idealistic and cliche. Also I must say, I dont like the characters at all. They are very cliche to the max - Asakura the stubborn ideal 24/7 doctor type who later loosen up - the cliche annoying character - Naruse the cold, talented but nice senior - another cliche character - Fukazawa the timid good for nothing but later I become better - yet another cliche annoying character - Sakuraba the heir with subpar technique but wanna prove his worth - cliche enough - Takaoka the adequate doctor and her only story arc is her love problem - super cliche side character story TBH, I was disappointed that this drama is not as good as I thought it would be. It was full of generic cliche story line and characters. 6/10
If there is one word to describe this drama is ... boring. I appreciate Japan trying to produce different themes drama. I dont think the premise is boring. It just about soloing journey of doing thing. I do same thing sometimes. But it does not translate into memorable drama. I was bored in every ep by the production. 4/10
I just realised I didn't finish this drama back then. Watching it now, I must say, it was the time when Jdrama is full of optimistic HS trope. I get why it is popular back then but definitely the trope got exhausted few years later. Still, it is not all optimistic because Sakuragi did let the students and the other teacher, Ino learning from their mistakes. 7.5/10
Yeah, hikikomori is bad. A lot of shut in live with their parents corpse because they are unable to talk with other people. This drama is only tackling this one issue and it is kinda disturbing when you only source of interaction is another shut-in in similar situation. Rather than moving, this drama is creepy and just make u wanna slap those hikikomori into reality. 6/10
The story of coping up with lost after earthquake and tsunami. The FL tries to reopen book store like her late husband use to do but then it came with so many worries. Nice story but that is all about it. 6.5/10
