The casual misogyny & sexism gets worse as the show progresses.
If this drama is sexist, the chief wouldn't be a woman. In fact all the detectives would be men just like how it is in real life China.

Can't call a show sexist when it is less sexist than real life.

Underrated drama. It's just very enjoyable to watch overall. If you like "historical" investigation mystery this is the best cdrama for that.

Somehow this show succeeded into making the nice guy simultaneously the worst guy, in general. I wouldn't want…
Fang Lie is just your usual lazy, unreliable, nice guy. Except that here he has talent in drawing and that's about it.

Overrated, it's draggy and kinda boring, had to slog through it. Only managed to finish it because the FL actress is very cute and pretty.

I can't stand the female lead. I'm tired of women being presented like this in xianxia...
There is a reason for this type of female character to be common, because many men like that kind of character, the same way that women simps for the typical male lead in xianxia.

Not sure what you're talking about. I thought her voice is so cute, and she is a master at acting cute and innocent. She's great at singing too. Best actress imho. Only watched this because she's here otherwise I won't bother. Now, speaking of her character, as a guy, I actually like this type of girl...

It was one big Chinese military propaganda but at least it was well made on the technical side. All action scenes…
Uh, military dramas are all propaganda, doesn't matter the country. You think US are making military dramas that make their military look bad?

The difference here is if you don't like China govt in the first place then you would subconsciously think that anything that portray them as good is propaganda, while other countries that you might like, you won't even think that way when they show how heroic their military is.

exactly my question! i don't get it. very bland dramas have over 8.5 ratings but why
What you said is just subjective opinion. I don't even like kdramas they sucked even at 8 rating. Meanwhile I'm watching some cdramas below 8 rating. If you ask me, kdramas are overrated.

However despite all that, I do agree that this drama in particular is overrated. Should be an 8 at best. From my observation, "esports" dramas are all overrated in general for some reason.

I really think this is the most overrated drama ever
Can you name some better cdramas with the same genre though? Otherwise, it can't really be overrated when there's nothing better in its category.

Wan Peng is simply the best at this "bright girl chasing a cold guy" role, she does it in many dramas and always nail it perfectly.

The actress that plays Xiao Lu is pretty but this is the only drama she ever acted on, what a shame.

Couldn't agree more! I'm actually quite annoyed with this drama cause it had all the ingredients to be spectacular,…
> You often see the youngsters who are blinded by the superficial beauty that they don't see what happening inside.

See, the problem is that most people judge by appearance and everyone knows that appearance affect life opportunities from jobs to romance. As much as everyone like to talk about inner beauty, in the end, it is much easier for people to fall in love with a pretty face, of course in a relationship, eventually other things like personality and character matters too, but looks determines the amount of choices you get, really.

This is why appearance anxiety becomes a problem, all the "born ugly" people knows that they are generally treated worse than their good looking peers, they see that the popular good looking girls/guys getting better school life and such, then they graduate and have advantage in the job market, etc. I remember when I was in high school, the most attractive girls has many suitors, while of course the least good looking girls have 0 suitor, all the guys don't even know any of their personality, they just see pretty face and then go chase mode, the so called "good looking guys" who wanna waste time with ugly girls to try to get to know her only exist in dramaland. Even the ugly guys all dream of the school beauties. Later when these guys will grow up to be a creepy ugly old uncle and if they happen to be rich, they'll probably still chasing after young pretty faces to be their mistresses.

Of course, no one needs to have tv star looks to find true love and such, but one always wonder if their life might be better if they have better looks. My take on this is, those people with above average, say 7 or 8/10 looks still feel the need for surgeries and such, that's excessive, but think about people who look below average, it's hard to imagine how they can chase that ideal life in tv like intense romance and such without full makeover. Life sucks, I remember reading a chinese interview with a girl who was asked why she wants a cosmetic surgery, she said that she sees people on the street looking like "influencers" and feel very insecure. Imagine yourself in her shoes, feeling like shit when watching these good looking people on the street are being affectionate with their good looking partners...

Societies and idols cannot be blamed. Why should idols be not allowed to look good? Surely in the free world they should be allowed to look as good as they want. Naturally this create a chain reaction where a bunch of "ordinary" people looking at these pretty people and then idolize/dream of having a partner like them. This is normal biological reaction, attempting to normalize ugliness/discourage excessively attractive faces makes absolutely no sense for the society going forward, if anything humanity should eventually figure out how to make everyone a 10/10 face. That way no one would be left behind anymore and can live their perfect ideal romance with another 10/10 face. This is the most fair outcome.

Speaking of dramaland, sometimes I see fictional characters, like pretty FL, having only 1-2 suitor and every other men aren't attracted to her at all, or SML attracted to SFL as first choice which is clearly uglier than FL, those are very very unrealistic irl. In practice, the society is way more shallow and the 10s will have the most suitors followed by the 9s and so on. Of course people have their own preference for categories and a 10 will not attract everyone, eg. a man who's into cute petite girls might not necessarily like a tall beautiful model, but he will definitely like a top tier face in his "strike zone."

I'm surprised people actually watch credits, I always skip them. In fact wetv even have "skip credit" mode lol.

Gotcha, that tag make it sound like she's gonna have relationship with multiple men, if it's like what you said it should be more like love triangle or not even tagged because a non-toxic love rival is pretty common.

I'm watching the first episode and I have to say that I am not a fan of the "dream forecast" thingy, I might watch a couple more episode and see if I want to continue or not.

Not sure what you mean by unnatural insta-love. Love at first sight is realistic, it happens and romance can develop…
I was referring to the FL instant crush on the ML. The example was given the other way around because I'm a guy... lol.

Then again it's kinda hard to compare drama characters with real life because there's way too many of these fictional characters who unrealistically have only 1 or few people interested in them despite having the looks of "actresses." Irl if you have these kind of superstar idol looks you'll have a lot of suitors since school times.

> No keeping secrets from her for her own protection, no breaking up with him to save his career, no misunderstandings that would be solved in a 5 min conversation, no breakup for ridiculous reasons.

Soooo true idk why all those toxic annoying things you listed are actually so common enough to become cliche in so many dramas! Unrealistic and lazy writings, who even does any of those in real life relationship? The lack of communications between leads in many of these romance dramas bothers me, it's even worse in modern dramas when you have the ability to easily call or send text messages to communicate.

Btw if you know any other good dramas where the leads communicate well with each other, not do any of the stupid things you listed, and there's little misunderstandings throughout the story, please recommend me some.

Well, if I finished a drama that means I enjoy them enough to finish it.
Truth or Dare is not bad, I'm just not a fan of the FL actress so I enjoyed it less than it should.
Fallen For You has the best FL actress for me, actually my favorite actress which was why I watched it mainly for.
Out of those 3 I like General's Lady the most in terms of story.

dropping and retrying 3 times, but i guess this drama is just not for me. I'd rather see a slow-burn romance than…
Not sure what you mean by unnatural insta-love. Love at first sight is realistic, it happens and romance can develop very fast if it is mutual attraction. Whether both parties can get along or not, or if the romance will last is another story, but there is definitely no need for someone to get to know another person in anything deeper than appearance to fall in love. Historically, imagine how emperors would select his harem, it's 100% based on looks.

If I was single and the girl who just moved next door look like Xing Fei I would chase after her even before knowing her personality at all, it can only become a slowburn if she has no interest at me. When I think of slowburn I think of situations where someone is not getting their first choice and settling for convenience. For example, Xing Fei's FL character in PYHOMS going through slowburn romance make sense because she started the story as being interested in another guy, while the ML was also an awkward nerdy guy.

It's more realistic here than in some other dramas. The FL here getting equality makes a lot of sense because…
Female power is a common theme because it is popular, the majority of people who watch dramas are women after all. How many of them would enjoy watching "real history" where an emperor have 1000 concubines and FL is just one of the usual illiterate and completely powerless at the mercy of her male relatives (because women were denied education and all kinds of opportunities), not to mention that the "favorite concubines" are often underage by today standard. In fact, princes as old as ML here would've some concubines already, and would get an arranged marriage when they were a kid already that serve as their principal wife, and the emperor probably gave him one of his concubine to teach them about "that". And very likely these nobles would do the servants and such on the side, back then in ancient times the whole thing is very different.... 99% of the emperors/princes are addicted to pleasures because they can, no one would hold back so hard like in these costume dramas. High ranking officials like minister Du and Tian here would not just have a single daughter/granddaughter, would've fathered at least several kids from different moms. Think why birth rates were high back then despite high infant mortality, lack of food, and men dying young due to wars.

I mean, even near modern China is still unequal, gender proportion in CN is messed up due to one child policy and parents favoring males. Let alone in these costume dramas where historically in those times females were treated like objects.

Some historical dramas with romance and comedy tag I've completed:
General's Lady, Maiden Holmes, My Heroic Husband, I've Fallen For You, The Eternal Love.

No comedy tag but I really liked The Imperial Coroner.
