Romance drama with barely any Romance
Giving props to the cast bc they’re great and I watched this drama bc it has many of my favorite actors/actresses in it BUT this drama is so disappointing. It dragged on and I stuck with it cuz for sure thought something interesting was going to happen with the main couple but ended up with nothing. The script felt like it was someone’s first time writing one. It was all over the place and lacked common sense throughout the drama. The way some scenes are filmed is also odd. I’m surprised by the high rating cuz it should be a 6-7 MAXMy review of the couples and characters:
(Main couple) Shiyan & Zheng Shiyi - Most boring couple with uninteresting relationship development. They tried to make the reason for the breakup such a big deal which honestly it’s not so it seemed really ridiculous and couldn’t understand why they’d breakup over it. I love Bai Lu but her character was my least favorite. She’s a spoiled snobby brat. Very annoying and I got very irritated watching her. Dylan played ShiYan pretty well but there are other actors that would’ve suited the part better bc next to Bai Lu he looks too young if that makes sense. I didn’t feel the chemistry. It was actually hard to watch. Last 7-8 eps I was getting bored and fast forward all this couple’s scenes. Didn’t need to watch cuz they pretty much just text each other and you can tell what’s happening. There’s a lot of slow motion scenes w/long music breaks with them.
(Side couple) Professor Yu & Qin ShiYu - THIS couple is what the drama should’ve been about! Only reason I kept watching the drama was for them. Older 30 yr man falling in love with a 22 yr woman matches more to the title of this drama. At first ShiYu can seem immature and annoying bc she’s the spoiled rich girl that crushes on Yu but you start to see her character development which is the best in the drama. She wouldn’t take no for an answer after Yu rejects her cuz she knew he’s the one so she learns to be independent and along the way finds out what she wants to do with her life. Yu and ShiYu have the cutest confession scene. TBH Professor Yu wasn’t all that interesting unless he was with ShiYu but that’s bc he didn’t have a ton of screen time so really didn’t get to know much about him. These 2 have really good cute chemistry and only wish they got together earlier.
(Side couple) Guan Ji & ShanShan - Both are players that can’t commit but want to be with each other. This couple was confusing and I really didn’t know why the drama needed them.

Magical Love Story
This was a real surprise for me! I didn’t expect it to be sooo good! 💖 Dylan Wang’s acting has come a long way and the role of Dongfang Qingcang was perfect for him. He plays the powerful, merciless, emotionless Moon Supreme in such an elegant way that it’s hard to keep your eyes off him. Esther Yu as Xiao Lan Hua is someone that I find that will grow on you. She is a typical fairy like in a lot of dramas but she has standout moments that make you want to cheer her on. The 2 leads chemistry is off the charts awesome! Its a Romeo and Juliet/sacrifice story at its best. The development of the leads love story is one of the best I’ve seen yet. Oh and the costumes! Dongfang Qingcang’s costumes are so magnificent and fit Dylan’s look handsomely. They must’ve spent a lot on effects because the CGI in this is probably one of the best I’ve ever seen. Cinematography was excellent and scenery is mesmerizing. While waiting for new episodes I found myself rewatching the already aired ones because I was having trouble tearing myself away. It’ll be a definite rewatch for me and I highly recommend this one especially if you’re looking for fantasy and a great love story. 💗💗💗🥰Was this review helpful to you?
Perfect First Love Story
This was one of my first Chinese Dramas I’ve ever watched. I started watching them this year and now barely watch anything else. I am now rewatching this for the 4TH time! I fell in love with Hu Yitian in Handsome Siblings (my 1st Chinese drama) and it led to this. Thanks to him and Shen Yue I’ve discovered the world of cute love stories in these dramas! The theme song is always stuck in my head and I sing it when I’m happy! The story and development makes you wish you were in school again hoping to find The One. Chen Xiaoxi is a brave girl that doesn’t give in and lives every day with hope. It definitely makes you reminisce the days when you had a crush on someone so it’s easy to connect to it. You’ll root for all the characters. It’s a fluffy drama with some sad moments. I highly recommend this and it’s so rewatchable. Does anyone know where I can buy her cute cartoon images that she drew of them when they were young? So cute! Was this review helpful to you?

Story and Cast captivates from the beginning
This drama really surprised me! I expected it to be very serious and possibly draggy storyline but it was none of that. Right from the 1st episode I was invested and couldn't wait to see what was gonna happen next. Loved FL! She is stunning and played the part of a strong intelligent woman perfectly. ML did fantastic playing the dark cruel leader and clueless new husband that knew nothing abt being thoughtful or love. They are now in my list of TOP 3 best couple chemistry bc their dynamic is off the charts so good especially the intimate scenes 🔥 like I needed cool down time for those! The supporting cast is just as phenomenal. Usually in dramas theres some characters you get so done with watching but not with this one. The 4 generals to the ML are hilarious and such a highlight! Their sparks of comedy really made it best parts in the show. one of the them, Wei Liang is so cute and such a romantic. His fun relationship with Xiao Tao is adorable and I couldn't wait to see them get married BUT the writers had to break my heart and have him killed. Omg I just know everyone was bawling! I do wish we saw more of Liuyang scheming bc he made a good villain. The lady with the mask had more villain time imo.The pacing of the show was great. I wasn't bored at any time and nothing dragged out. Unlike many other dramas that rely on misunderstandings in the relationships to help the storyline along this one is an enemies to lovers tale that is all about how much the couple trusts each other. Any miscommunications are resolved immediately too which I love bc i get so frustrated when other dramas drag those out forever. I will definitely rewatch this! Was this review helpful to you?
Story and acting has problems
I watched this 5 yrs ago when it released and it was my first cdrama. At the time I was very impressed and loved it so much. Now that I’ve watched many CDramas specifically costume/wuxia ones I have to admit this one is not as great as I thought. There’s still positives though. The production and set design is incredible. The OST is one of my all time favorites it’s so beautiful. After rewatching some parts my problem with it is how they ended the story and the relationship/character developments throughout. Also some of the actor’s acting was not great. I loved Hu Yitian in this role visually and he really did a good job with the martial arts parts. His acting could’ve been better in the more emotional scenes. Unfortunately he had a tendency to be very expressionless in his early years. Tie Xinlan was a confusing character bc in the beginning she seemed badass then she became very damsel in distress. The actress’s acting skills was not great imo. I wish we could’ve seen more relationship development so we could see their love for each other instead of just dabs here and there. Some of the villains were very odd and unrealistic which made you not want to take the drama seriously. Something felt so off about the ending like they wanted to just get it over with and wrote the easiest way they could think of to end it. I think it’s watchable but don’t expect quality writing and actingWas this review helpful to you?
