You really get my hopes up with this article - or I should say this title bc I didn't dare to spoil myself with…
Hi, Not Your Oppa! Thanks a lot for your comment. About the tree: The Double has many non-explicit narratives. Part of its communication is made using symbols that are very representative of China to this day. When cutting from the wedding scene to the small bush scene, we implicitly deduce that the conflicts with the rebels remained and Duke Su must leave. The plum tree symbolizes resilience, hope, and perseverance in the face of adversity. This meaning is well known to the Chinese people, but most people are unaware of this meaning and miss part of this poetic beauty, as it is not just about planting a tree, but passing on the message of resistance and hope. About the guzheng. I understand you well, because I am a musician by profession. I've seen series where you just hear the instrument, without orchestration, generally more intimate scenes, in smaller or closed environments, in moments of reflection (some examples: guqin scenes in The Legend of Zhuohua, The Story of Kunning Palace; scenes with erhu, bow instrument, accompanied by the guzheng, in The Story of the Pearl Girl). In the case of the competition, it is an open-air environment with a sequence of powerful, grandiloquent images that demand sound weight. Music plays a vital role in cinema, amplifying and boosting our emotions, image and music need to be "married" to communicate a visually and acoustically coherent narrative. These are not scenes based on the fantastic style, but on surrealism combined with supernatural phenomena experienced collectively. About XFF's injured fingers. It's very common to see instrumentalists bleeding, I've often seen drummers, guitarists with injured fingers, as well as saxophonists with bleeding lips. It's not new. In the XFF scene it is a visual impact that adds more expressiveness, an externalization of her dilacerated inner life. Once again, thank you for sharing your impressions!

I learned of the drama called "The Double" by reading this and I will very likely watch it now.I'm very impressed…
Hi, Jakksen! Thank you very much for your comment, I really appreciated it, it reveals the sensitive person you are. The Double, from an artistic and cultural point of view, was unique this year, among all the series launched to date. Even without being aware of the sophisticated conception that surrounds it, the series captivates the heart and delights the eyes. It is interesting to note that even the most banal series carry with them the history of China in its various aspects: artistic, cultural, social, such as music (there are always musical instruments), literature (there are always quotes from poets, such as Li Bai), painting ( there are always scenes that are representations of paintings), customs (each dynasty with its symbols, hairstyles__according to age and social position, fashion and make-up of each period, colors for each social status) are always present, because this is China, there is no way to create a single story without its historical aspects. You will certainly enjoy The Double with more pleasure, because the more knowledge and aesthetic refinement, the greater our dive into Beauty and Poetry. Thank you very much, once again!

Hi, dear Talia!! I'm also happy to see you here, a great opportunity for good debates! And...Erhu!!!! I SIMPLY LOVE ERHU!! It's a privilege for you to have this instrument! I don't believe you play like that, as you say, since you are always modest when it comes to praise. I hope we can recover from the lethal disappointment with KMLM. So far, it's been wonderful, I have a whirlwind of insights that I want to share! And here we go, on another "blind date"! 😅

Hi! Thanks a lot for your sensitive, accurate and poetic comment. Like you, I"m very impressed by the symbols and a narrative that makes abundant use of Chinese poetry. Another aspect that impacts is the painful history of the pearl market, the series brings historical data, with precision and seriousness. The dialogues between Zhan Jin Ran and DW, in addition to being poetic, are refined, philosophical, and bring reflection throughout. As you beautifully say: "it's deep and thoughtful, capturing the both dark and brightful sides of life". And that's exactly what DW says to ZJR, in the temple, ep 6 (23:47): "I see the world differetly from you. It's like you think a fish jumping out of the water, it's a beautiful sight, but they fight to the death under water". So beautiful and cruel! Thank you once again! I hope I can exchange many insights with you!

On The Story of Pearl Girl Nov 4, 2024
I watched up to episode 10. Intelligent text full of delicate and profound Chinese poetry. Actors doing brilliant work. Quality scenarios that please the eyes. ZLS impresses with the sweet luminosity of her expressive and delicate face: she looks like a painting. Her eyes are so eloquent that she wouldn't need to use the word: she gives us a convincing Duan Wu, with her childhood and adolescence stolen, matured by force, endowed with a noble soul, tender heart, pain is the dynamo that makes her nourish herself of hope and overcoming. LYN, as always, versatile and competent, delivers an impeccable interpretation, he plays a complex character who oscillates between several emotional facets. What a perfect choice for the bowed musical instrument, erhu, to be YZJ's way of expressing his sensitivity in the moments when he surrenders to memories, because it is an instrument with a melancholic sound, which cries...for him and with him. I hope this quality lasts until the last chapter.

Thank you for all the work you did on this -- especially on the closing scene. The death of his minions was brutal…
Hi, Marget! Thank you very much for your precious comment. I agree with you on the brutal death of the adorable Wen Ji (Pan You Cheng) and Lu Ji (Wang Le Fu), unnecessary, in my opinion. I have noticed that cdramas have a tendency to give this treatment to captivating characters, aiming to deepen the drama and, consequently, enlarge the emotional impact. It is a joy to know that the work contributed to clarifying issues that may have been obscure, revealing an interpretation that is more in line with what the work wants to communicate. The Double brings together a set of artistic languages that are among the most representative of China. Thank you very much for sharing your insights with us!

Hi, Blizzardam! Thank you very much for your kind comment! We have reached the end of the year and so far no series has come close to the quality and refinement of The Double, the biggest phenomenon of 2024! In addition to the incredible work of the actors, especially WJY and WXY, it left an artistic legacy that deserves to be revisited!

thank you for such an enlightening article, which makes me want to see the drama again with other perspectives.…
Hi, Maisange! Thank you very much for the precious comment! Although The Double has been elaborated with sophistication, its aesthetics enchant the eyes, even without prior knowledge of this constellation of artistic languages that compose it. But certainly, the more lenses we have to perceive this set of arts, the more sensory pleasure we will have, the more impacted by Beauty we will be. In fact, this Beauty and Poetry invites us to take a deeper dive into the extraordinary Chinese art, a civilization that is more than 5,000 years old and whose history and culture we can relive in cdramas, even the simplest ones. It is a satisfaction to know that the article fulfills its mission of shining a light on Chinese art and bringing it closer to cdrama fans, especially to The Double fans. Thank you very much, once again!

Today is a sad day in my country: Day of the Dead. I can't dwell on it here. I'm leaving to bring flowers to MJH and ML. May they rest in peace. And by the way: this was my last post here. I only have one more text to put in the Discussions. See you in "The story of the pearl girl"!

Title Kill Me Love Me Spoiler
Romeo and Juliet took place at the Theatre in London in 1597. For 497 years, it has filled theaters and inspired filmmakers and writers.I can name two great successes based on Romeo and Juliet: West Side Story (1961, directed by Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise, remade in 2021) and Love Story (1970, directed by Arthur Hiller). Everyone knows how it ends: it didn't shake its success. Endowed with great beauty, the plot has logic and coherence as basic principles, the characters are consistent, with solid characteristics, poetry has a place of honor. So, the problem with KMLM is not the SE: it is the betrayal of logic and coherence, it is the suppression of the consistency and characteristics of the characters. I read, I watched Romeo and Juliet in the theater, in the cinema, COUNTLESS times. As for KMLM, "half" a time would have been enough to not watch it again. It attacks our intelligence and abuses the tolerance we have with a plot that began spectacularly and from the middle to the end turned into a cheap Mexican melodrama.

When I watched the trailer of the series at the beginning, I guessed the ending. As a Chinese series watcher for…
Your words are very touching. I wrote 2 days ago exactly about this point of view.I think that, as an ordinary person in the world, producers should be more considerate of the public. I have noticed that invariably, cdramas invest in dubious endings, in others that are clearly sad and discourage us. Behind the screen there's a worker and all kinds of people who leave home early and return later exhausted, in need of a fable to overcome the sufficiently harsh side of life. This worker lifts the country and fills the pockets of entertainment producers. Social networks reflect what we feel and think and they watch us, they know what we feel and yet they continue to frustrate their audience. We have a vocation for happiness. There will be a time when this will change. It depends more on us than on their will, they only exist because we're the plug that connects them to money. It's not about us determining how stories should be, writers need creative freedom. It’s about balancing the outcomes of the stories more evenly. KMLM tortured us and in the end our tears found no comfort.
