I get where you’re coming from, but I think you’re overlooking how Lee U-Gyeom’s character is written. His…
I do agree with half of what you said. But rest of it just glazing it. People on the internet just exaggerate things too much. I don't even think the writer thought as much as you made out of it. There really isn't much to it. I didn't say it was a bad drama or it's boring. It's quite good as it is but some action could've made it more interesting.
Lee U Gyeom isn't even a main character at this point. His role in the drama is so secondary. I wanted to see some action on how he did all that he did, thought it was like those other psychopath dramas where they explain how the murders happened etc. But this is just a talk show lol. The drama isn't bad, i was able to stick to it. It's interesting, except there isn't any major anticipation or suspense. A lot of us started watching it to see Ryeoun play a psychopath but it is completely diffrent from what we expected. His character just exists for reference.
The consequences he faced weren't shown on screen but told to us by Shi Lihua. I do not think there was any romanticization…
From a fictional point of view, sure. But as a lesson in real life, nah. I am just saying, it wasn't a good choice that they end up together. It could have given us a deeper message if they didn't. It sounds too much like a fantasy. He did suffer but it was nothing related to Shulang that made him suffer, it was his own doing because he was an ass, he deserved it. The punishment should have been in Shulang's form, a bit more emotional. And why do you Fan Xiao defenders forget that Shulang had trauma too. While he was suffering with that Fan Xiao just doubled it. Fan Xiao's trauma was half of him just playing victim. Thinking it's justified for him to be an asshole just because he had a bad past. Which makes him even more gross. Maybe the series failed to convince me he changed. I couldn't see it all. Poor screenwriting I guess. Because usually some writers even end up making us feel sorry for villains they portray it that way but never once did I feel sorry for Fan Xiao.

Fan xiao needed to learn a lesson here. That he cannot get whatever he wants. He might've changed a little but whatever the ending was proved that despite all the BS he did, he did indeed achieve whatever he wanted in the end. He was forgiven too easily. And whatever happened to Fan xiao in the original story, would still be less than the intentional harm he caused Shulang. Yes, 2 dysfunctional people but one who tried his best to become a good person, and one rotten spoiled who despite being a grown adult chose to deliberately hurt others and be immoral.
Actors did an awesome job. The drama was good overall but the ending ruined it. I expected self development and self respect on Shulang's part ... but he prioritised idk what to call it. "Love" isn't the right word but its fiction. Fan Xiao was extremely manipulative and cruel, but faced almost no consequences for the harm he caused. If Shulang had moved on, the message would’ve been much deeper—instead, it ended up feeling like a romanticized toxic fantasy
I may be the only one, but I didn't particularly enjoy the directing; felt like watching a cut version of it few…
I know right. They shouldn't have ended up together. It shows lack of self respect on Shulang's part; Someone who was so mature and upright. Instead of a good story it became a vague piece of fiction

Lmao. I don't use this site often to make comments. But look I am here doing it now because that female lead really did piss me off. Otherwise, i I would'nt here be replying to ignorant people.

You could have said that in a better way too. Using gay in an offensive way doesn't make your comment any better. The female character is written poorly. Just admit it. I don't hate a strong logical women but this one is not one at all.
The female lead is so freaking annoying omg. She ruined the whole drama with her stupid, childish, stubborn, obnoxious and arrogant personality. She overreacts too much. Terribly written female character. She thinks the world revolves around her. The drama is great if we skip her scenes, she was so unnecesaary.
