And he can see/sense her because of the necklace. It's called Heart Prying Mirror and thanks to that he can sense or see her and also listen to her voice when she's invisible.

He was the one who gave it to her first time too. Before her death. Why and how it happened it will be explained in ep 32.

In ep 36 Zhao Yao asks him when did he know that she's Zhao Yao. And Mo Qing answers that during her fight with North Mountain Lord. Because only she has such a look and imposing manner.
