Not sure about the novel but I don't think it's that much in the drama. For a PHD student, he was probably 22-23 in the beginning when she was 18.

Yeah I have watched my share of c-drama where getting a marriage license is easy as ABC. There is no checking to see if you are married already, no witnesses, you don't even need to know what the other person looks like, and they will issue you the license on the spot.

That last paragraph about the sanitary pads was so random. It has nothing to do with their marriage. Also if they got their marriage license already, aren't they considered married already? Or you're only married if you have a wedding ceremony.
