Yup I don't mind childhood friends to lovers trope but not the childhood connection line where it was just a moment and they were in love with that person. Not likely especially when they were kids. Not sure why so many c-dramas added that in now.

If you're skimming all the other scenes except for Siyi and Chenrui, you won't really understand the deeper meaning of why the characters act the way they do, especially in the last 10 eps where Siyi only has a couple mins screen time.

I think this is way more realistic. WH might have loved Siyi at one time, but people move on and develop feeling for other people especially when they interact on a regular basis.

I really hate that trope where the kids meet for like 10 mins in childhood and one of them did some kindness and they decided to make them their life partner and never date anyone else. So unrealistic.

It seems the drama is doing really well in China. MDL audience just doesn't know how to appreciate a good drama except for idol dramas with perfect characters.

I haven't started it. I was going to when this aired and caught my attention when I saw the trailer. I was hoping Si Jin was good since I like ZWY. Maybe I'll give it a few eps and see.

I hope this is not another kill Me Love me where on the 1st few eps were so badass and then all of a sudden they turned into these compassionate, emotional, weak-minded people.

Something doesn't add up. On the 1st ep the FL's mother was like this scary lady of the house who has complete power over everyone, even the grandmother was afraid of her. Then on ep 6/7, she is being bullied. What happened to her authority, scary self? So the only thing that gave her that power was her husband letting her managed the household?? am I missing something?

I'm not there yet. That's a pity. That would've redeemed her a bit.

Exactly. If you're sending her away, at least make sure she will be treated well and protected. If she wasn't smart and resourceful, she would have died a long time ago or being tortured and raped.

I really don't understand the mother's thought. What is the point of keeping someone alive or safe if they are going to have a miserable life away.

This is the first role I actually like CDL in and she looks quite young and pretty here. I hated her in TTEOTM.

It was clear when he told her he starts to fall for her 3 years ago. I think he liked Siyi when he was a teenager but I think it's normal for teenagers to have crushes or like someone. It's understandable that Huazi thinks he still likes Siyi because she has always liked him even as a kid and this hasn't changed for her.

oh wow very well written. I love your analysis of all the characters and provided so many points I haven't thought of. This is an amazing drama and I love how heartwarming it is that the 4 mains have such close friendships even after leaving the courtyard for the big city and how they all still so close to their families back home.
