It's sad but I believe the makers changed the backstory so that he could be somehow be known by fl's mother. The drama's storyline gives fl's mother a prominent reason to dislike him.

Are you forgetting that FL is just a teenager, who worked hard for a project and now that project being taken by another group of people right in front of her eyes, isn't it normal to react the way she did. Moreover she expected ML to fight for his project like any other human being will but he didn't utter a word. He is highly favored by the teacher, there was a chance that someone might listen to him. Don't tell me you don't expect your leader to fight for the project you all have been working so hard on. Also all of this happened in such a small span of time i don't think she had the time to think of the consequences of fighting for the project and what bad thing could happen and certainly not how her mother could protect her. Like you mentioned that most of her friends are from rural or middle class background, this project was means for them to get money but now they are not sure if they ever will. And from the promo we already know that ML was either way gonna go against Zhang Xiaobie for his project. Come on it was just a conversation both the main leads had, you don't need to judge a whole person's character out of it.
Is it just me or it feels weird seeing all the senior girls dying to get a freshman's attention. When in reality freshman tries to get into senior's group and be friends with them whereas here it is totally opposite.
I understand why Fang Shu Miao is getting so much hate but somehow she feels like any other human being to me. Like forcing FL to get ML for morning classes when you are the monitor is bad but getting into the same group as your crush is completely normal. She knows she is not as talented as the FL, so the only way she can be recognized and be graded is by being in the same group with ML. It is completely normal to feel hurt when it's your bestfriend who is gaining your crush's attention not you. Also her and FL's friendship looks healthy and balanced to me because even after all the disagreement they had, it only took one conversation to solve their misunderstanding. (I am saying all this on the accounts of the first 6 episodes)
In novel the ml is a playboy which made him even more jerk but so far in the drama he is more introvert with no interest in dating. I hope it stays that way until he and fl get together
the way Li Xun challenges Zhu Yun, indirectly helping her gain experience is just wow. moreover to me it looks like Li Xun is that boy who annoys the girl he like to grab her attention.
Overall I enjoyed the drama but I can't unsettle the fact that if only the ml could have moved abroad way more earlier. I mean in his college he faced so much rejection that he had to change his sports whereas in abroad he was provided an opportunity regardless of his height.
They will literally drag the storyline in the last two episodes. I just feel instead of adding so much of unnecessary scene, they could have focused more on the main leads relation and their upcoming college life.
