On Love in the Big City Oct 26, 2024
A beautiful story. Not because it’s rosy and smooth sailing, but because it’s so raw and real. The actors brought their characters to life, I felt everything along with them. I laughed, I cried and experienced that gap in between joy and sadness that they kept bringing me into. It’s truly a masterpiece that will go down in history (at least to me). A remarkable piece of art told in earnest. One of my forever favorites now

I’m crying 😭😭 I absolutely loved this. It’s so short but delivers the story beautifully. I found myself loving the characters deeply. Beautiful

I’d put it on hold but I’ll soldier on now thanks to your comment 😊. I love me a good show without any unnecessary angst

Good plot. If the plot is good even the “disliked” characters will still be entertaining because they’ll be key players in the GOOD story.

Hmm so far I just finished ep 2 and it’s a bit slow (entertaining still). In terms of direction of the show or plot there’s still very little establishedbut somehow already had a side plot introduced ?…. The soldier dude’s story was touching and I got the beautiful transformation scene so I’m not complaining too much just wish there was more of the main story to get me hooked. I’m holding out because this has been recommended to me so I think it’ll pick up in later episodes. Hope it does so soon because I was really excited when I started it

The ml got plenty of heat if you scroll to the earlier comments here, or on discuss. Most of us even cheered when…
The point I’m making here isn’t “she should forgive him quickly” it’s they failed to execute this section of the drama. Even if she would’ve decided to never forgive him the audience would’ve understood because at that point we all had contempt toward ML for lying to her( which hinged on her being an innocent 3rd party that’d been unjustly deceived in the bid to catch the actual criminal, turns out she wasn’t so now we were only mad that he’d lied to someone he claimed to love for so long)…But we’d still need scenes where she deliberates on things, reaches her conclusions so we know what we’re watching and can empathize on how she reaches that point. But they didn’t give that and just dragged it out where we knew they’d end up together again. Now after seeing that she has literally no feelings for him, love or hate, for that long, they tried to bring us back into their lovey dovey segment and it now felt too late. They also reveal her backstory during this period and we see the questionable decisions she’d made, her own wrongdoings etc but they didn’t give us the introspection or whatever it’s called where we see her regret or acknowledge her mistakes as a character develops. That’s the issue they did in writing her in the 2nd half because they didn’t do anything to translate her to the audience, she was just suddenly a hardened criminal instead of the grey character originally written by the author. They did that for the ml but didn’t bother with her. And even when we were just getting to know this side of her, after the stabbing bit that she must truly be unforgiving and unwavering , they had her being very understanding of Ziyu who was complicit in her suffering and protecting the people who hurt her (tried to kill her multiple times and murdered her entire crew) and we don’t get to see why she forgave him so quickly, what was she thinking etc. That’s what some of us where complaining about. It’s like when they were deciding what to keep from the book for her they removed a lot of the important parts to keep her connected to the audience.
But to each his own, you might find they did justice to her character Im not trying to convince anyone was just explaining that my criticism wasn’t because I wanted her to to cry and fall into his arms after an episode but they should’ve done a better job of having us understand her thoughts and feelings throughout that second half than they bothered to do.

The writers

exactly! people here complaining about her being cold towards and and how she took to long to forgive him! like…
The reason it was so heartbreaking and maddening when he was deceiving her in the 1st half was because we all believed she was just an innocent 3rd party dragged into MLs plan to capture the bandit. When they revealed she was actually an active perpetrator then it changed their dynamic for most. The scriptwriters failed to calculate this. That’s why her anger felt overdone. Everything was tipped off balance afterwards.

I love this drama but at same time I am perplexed by the magnitude of understanding male leads get. I am in episode…
The ml got plenty of heat if you scroll to the earlier comments here, or on discuss. Most of us even cheered when she stabbed him lol. The issue is they dragged it out for too long. We all knew they’d end up together again because it’s a DRAMA, but they had her being so indifferent to him for over 10 episodes so obviously to the viewers that would become annoying…Just like the typical drama misunderstanding being drawn out too long will annoy viewers. We were all waiting for the satisfaction when she’d start to get her lick back after discovering the truth but they gave us nothing .It ended up feeling like she didn’t have feelings for him at all (which wouldn’t be the case if they’d just thrown in a few scenes of her deliberating on their relationship) but it was nothing. It wasn’t even “I hate him he hurt me” it was just “idgaf about this guy couldn’t care less”. Passive coldness coupled/contrasted with non stop pinning for 10 episodes doesn’t make for an enjoyable watch (yes even if the roles were reversed) The reconciliation therefore came too late for most, the chemistry they’d built up in the first half felt empty in the 2nd.
I know what you mean, I’ve seen it in plenty of drama chats but this time the criticism is warranted. They missed in execution of FLs strong character in 2nd half and didn’t do justice to her (esp compared to the book). I think you’ll get it when they start to detail her own past misdeeds with 0 remorse or justification and have her forgiving some of the people who screwed her over the most , all with 0 affection(not even hidden) for the ML.

Episode 26? You have 5-6 more episodes of the ML apologizing over and over for his lies, doing everything to get…
That is my issue as well. If they chose to present her as ruthless and unforgiving, she should have gotten her lick back with Ziyu at the very least. But she was somewhat understanding of him, I’d say even a little compassionate to him. But with just ML she is unmoving.
They could have sold it as her being too upset with his deception because she loved him so much in comparison to the rest but they didn’t present it as such either. And dragging it out over 6 episodes is really testing the viewer’s patience 😭😭

LMT is so poorly written. She's so indifferent to CXZ as if he's in a one-sided romance. Her character should…
The writers also missed the fact that we’ve seen her as loving and devoted in earlier episodes even though she was no fool. She was very stern and strong willed even then during the amnesia. But now to suddenly recalibrate her as stone cold, unmoving as if there was no previous affection at all will obviously be a slap for the viewers. And dragging out any conflict beyond logically necessary in a Romance drama is always a bad idea.
A scene where she self reflects, acknowledges the mistakes they’ve both made, that their feelings might’ve been real, that everyone is grey and concludes she isn’t interested in love anymore and wants to focus on herself would suffice for me.

Title Are You the One Spoiler
From episode 26 till now I’m lowkey starting to get annoyed with them dragging out the FL’s after learning her reason for becoming a bandit in ep26
I get her trying to escape an arranged marriage and assume a new identity that’d allow her to continue being her carefree independent self. But her choice being to go to Mount Yang and become a literal bandit is throwing me off. She had a choice and decided a life of crime.?After linking up with Ziyu, she even went as far as illegally smuggling iron and aiding a coup on top of the stealing and everything else the bandits did
I loved her character till this point because of how grey she seemed but now Im struggling to view her in that light. Her being deceived by Qui feels a little less impactful when I view the full picture now. The same way she had done unrighteous deeds incl deceit, to achieve her goals, is the same way he deceived her to achieve his. Now that makes both of them grey to me, but weighing out the intent, I feel like his makes more sense?? He wanted to catch a notorious criminal who he believed had broken a ceasefire and killed his soldiers on top of their other criminal activities. She on the other hand wanted to oust the ruling emperor (whom she believed was unfit to rule) and help Ziyu ascend the throne. He saved her, She tried to kill him…
When they parted she even stabbed him lol, and I was happy then because she was a victim getting her revenge. But seeing the way she dealt with Ziyu for his own contribution to her suffering (she just told him to let go of her and left) I’m struggling to understand her reasoning… Ziyu married the woman who tried to kill LMT SEVERAL times and made her his concubine, also was in cahoots with the Prince who had LMTs squad killed. Surely LMT should have as much smoke for him as she did Qui. But no.
So now her continuing to give ML a cold shoulder doesn’t translate to ‘she was hurt by his deception’ but instead feels like she’s just not into him that much. Because the contrast is ML pinning after her and her just not gaf. There isn’t many eps left so it might make their reunion (if it’s coming) feel forced because right now she’s just indifferent to him, couldn’t care less abt him lol.
I was so happy they wrote a strong willed, independent and intelligent FL but these last few eps have kinda not done justice to her character in this respect

it is easy for the viewer what to expect before starting this drama [ also only 8 episodes give us a hint ]
Yeah, sometimes people have a really hard time because they’ll be looking for things that the drama never promised to give.. I’m glad they made it 8 ep instead of trying to drag this out too much
On Serendipity's Embrace Aug 5, 2024
Cute, enjoyable. A bit of annoying parts (imo) but it’s nothing too deep so far. Good if you’re looking for a lighthearted romcom but if you need plot twists and excitement this one probably wouldn’t be for you…
On Serendipity's Embrace Jul 25, 2024
Enjoyed the first 2 episodes. It’s already a good sign to me when a show has a different number of episodes than the usual because it indicates they chose the best way to deliver the story without needing to add unnecessary twists or skip import plot points to reach the ep count. I hope that’s how it’ll be for this drama till the end.

They break up? I don't want to keep watching if they don't end together. Please let me know!
They end up together don’t worry. It’s a pretty great drama you should give it a try. It was just the usual breakup toward the end that they always put in dramas before the main character reconcile that I was complaining about.
