Exploration of good/bad parenting in SOKP.
1. Douchebag Dad creates 1 traumatised kid and cray cray adult; 1 daughter with no moral compass whatsoever and 1 fatuous son
2. Humane Yan Mu creates the sweetest 3rd ML ever, to the point of being a saint
3. JBY's tendency towards decency and loyalty is mirrored in his daughters
4. ED creates weak and ineffective emperor (esp if we follow the novel) through her constant control freak behaviour and craze for power
5. XW......hmmmm. Well, his kids also have JXN and her genes so they should grow up resilient, wily, strong and independent and able to handle their black-bellied dad 😂😂

Lost love in times also one of my top faves. She hasn't been doing many dramas in last few years. Eager to see her return. Just have doubts about pairing her with LYN...........but ready to be convinced.

Cdramaland hobbled by too many things: state intervention, censorship, trying to max out episodes cos of commercial considerations, lazy scriptwriters, everyone jumping on the same bandwagon once something proves to be a success, etc etc Despite that we still return again and again hoping to catch the occasional gem. And sometimes we’re rewarded for our patience.

Iqiyi is going big on Journey to Love which was why we got all the eps of SOKP this weekend. Looks interesting esp for wuxia fans like me, except I can’t help but wonder if LYN will pull off being the ML……love his singing, but his acting still rather work-in-progress.

After some of the disappointments we have had this year, I have to say second half of 2023 has been filled with some goodies, and especially after the drought in previous years too. From Mysterious Lotus Casebook, to LYF and now SOKP and not forgetting Scent in Time which acted like a foreshadowing of SOKP esp since WXY was also there. Special shoutout to Back from the Brink too earlier in the year cos it was so fun and such a pickmeup after TTEOTM.

Same same. Shows how important it is to land a good script and a director who can unveil hidden potential. It happens too rarely in cdramaland…..

It probably started in the same way it did in this life when she saved him in their journey together 4 years ago by cutting herself and letting him drink her blood etc. We all know that in ancient cdramas saving someone’s life elicits lifelong gratitude and creates a bond/debt/obligation that cannot be denied or broken and XW is no exception here as he points out all the time in the last arc. From gratitude to love is not a big step.

I think ZLH is as much a revelation in this drama as DW was in LBFAD. We would have missed how great DW was if he wasn’t DF there. But now we have SOKP which will forever be ZLH’s special showcase. Can we imagine anyone else doing defcon glares and growling Fǒuzé? 🤣🤣😍
