Well he's still a bit duhh, but shows some awareness about political realities - haven't read the novel but I assume this is where the tension between loyalty to the Ming and homeland will clash with realisation that Nurhaci is not just simply the big bad bogeyman...........what is irritating about these episodes is how they keep cutting back and forth between our hero up north and DFL and LSL - ugh just go get married and get a room already. I just found it jarring that the narrative keeps jumping back and forth every 2 minutes or so.

Fights are good and the filming locations very beautiful, but they take soooo long to tell the story..........still at least the hero gets better after a while.

I feel the same - seeing those locations, suddenly seized by desire to visit China and realised it's been over 10 years since I last went. Oh well, maybe that will be one of the few places that one will be allowed to travel to once enough people are vaccinated.

IKR - in this one they really could have condensed those earlier eps more. Took ever so long to get into it, if not for the fight scenes and filming locations, would have been dropped.

There may be a method to his "simpleness" - see my comment above. He does demonstrate an ability to arrive at surprising insights after his time at the Shaolin Temple - maybe cos he doesn't have the brains, he doesn't "brain out" - LOL.

Yes really takes a while to warm up to the drama. I'm thinking tho' it's still the WOH effect - everything after that seems slow and lacking oomph - LOL.

yup - definitely obsession going on there. but then I suppose the prince has alienated everyone close to him so is clinging desperately to ZZS

It could be that his "simpleness" helps him esp to easily understand Buddhist principles when he gets to the Shaolin Temple. In some ways he can get to the heart of the matter much quicker than some of the people around him who are cleverer but who overthink things and/or are obsessed. This will allow him to pick up the Shaolin and Wudang martial arts more completely than the others chasing those arts.

Actually I think crazy Bu Qi is also responsible since we find out later he's been deliberately messing up his training.

Too true - LOL, even as a set up for the traditional emergence of the kid as hero, the father is way too duhhh and has too much bad luck for words. I'm just watching cos their fighting scenes are pretty good esp in the Shaolin temple. Kid is pretty duhh too, but luckily has streetsmart gf to guide him. So reminiscent of another wuxia story...........

i believe there is a version floating around on YT without subs. Otherwise just pay 1USD to youku to watch on the app with subs. Or wait till May 5. Also note you will have missed a lot of clues in ep 36 if you watched without subs which already signified that the ending is not sad.

I guess we take so much of it for granted. I grew up in the heyday of HKTVB dramas so most of these things are just par for the course.

And they're always such huge and tall cliffs too.............Dilraba/Li Changge does plunge into and hits river (as close as we'll get to the ground:)) with an arrow in her (at least her manhua form does) but no worries, she just gets washed downstream and can even pull out arrow by herself after being fished out by Ashile Sun - LOL!
