Is this worth watching? Is there a happy, more importantly, satisfactory ending or conclusion to this story?
@GracieS: As a coming-of-age story, the ending is good (and realistic). Check it out yourself!

I like Liu Tao. She's a very good actress, especially when she played the Empress in the "Legend of Mi Yue". But…
@ChineseDramaFan: Agree on the " feelings". But I think it is a casting or script issue (instead of age difference between the actor/actress). In the Secrets of the Three Kingdom, the actress who portrayed Empress FuShou is also older than Ma Tian Yu, though they played Emperor/Empress who were of the same age in the drama.

Title River Flows to You Spoiler
The added scene in the end not sure if they were playing a flashback when they were together at the house they…
@Raina: Seems like a flash forward and an opening ending to me. They used flash backs and flash forwards frequently during the drama. At times, there were "dreams" also. The flash forwards and "dreams" often don't end up as part of the actual story line. So, it is an opening ending to me.

This is a wonderful story of youth and adulthood -- a bittersweet coming-of-age ("Bildungsroman"). It has good OSTs too (a plus!).

Is this good as the movie?
@Feyre: Yes! Gets better as you go (especially after Episode 40).

@chinesedramafan: Yi Yao's story line was my favorite part of the drama, btw. Thus, I'm quite biased (hee hee).

@chinesedramafan: Yi Yao's haircut suits her also! Overall, the drama's characters are "dressed appropriately" for their roles. It was really good.

At 33, Ray Ma looks more like an 18 year old. I'm always amazed by how the Chinese people maintain their youth.
@chinesedramafan: LOL. Helps to have a boyish haircut, hip-looking bagpacks, and Levi's ;-) His look in the drama is quite American/millennial. Right? Also, I really like Yi Yao's clothes for the character. They make her look unique and fits her character. (Bravo, costume team!)

@tsuyoi_hikari: Thanks for your comments. Very well said. I just found this drama within the last week or so, and I'm on Episode 21 now. Really glad that I found this story, which has so many interesting characters (plus, a wise Emperor).

@kmmdesai: Thanks for your comments. I agree with you that this story is very much in tune with Eastern Philosophies. In particular, this story highlights some aspects of Confucian and Taoism teachings. Benevolence is not a "weakness". It takes great personal strength, wisdom, and self-discipline to let go of personal desires, egotism, and status/wealth. Currently, I'm only on Episode 21 and I'm really glad that I found this story!

@BTSFT123: Yep, totally agree with you on Empress FuShou's voice. If you want to hear more of her voice, check out The Glory of the Tang Dynasty. The same actress plays Dugu JingYao (yep, a female General!). I'm on Episode 21 of this late-Han-Dynasty story so far and I'm so glad that I found this show. How underrated ?!right?!

I can't seem to find anything related to the release of this show. No press when I search 朝歌 on Google News.…

@Bluex: There are probably many ways to interpret the ending... My thinking is that the title is called "Destiny of xx"...so Xu Xuan and Bai Yao Yao always have to remember that they have to fight against "their destinies"....

@Bluex: Sounds like you have watched the ending that's missing something.... I know there were 2 edited versions of the ending. The version I watched has Xu Xuan coming back to meet her on the bridge (--quite a moving scene actually). Try to find it!!!
