He's devoted but not pathetic. Early on, when Sha Lou rejected his feelings, he accepted it and never forced her to return his affection. However, thanks to his charm and kindness, Sha Lou couldn't help but gradually come to accept her own feelings for Ao Chi. Their 'career clash' is also intriguing. Ao Chi is just a human (before regain his dragon power or even after regain power he still want to live as human), yet his wit and intelligence allow him to go toe-to-toe with a demon like Sha Lou, who is thousands years old

I hope people don't feel too discouraged about the director and end up missing this drama, because the male and female leads in this drama are really good. Especially the male lead, Ao Chi. He is a green flag. A young marshal in the Republican Era, but a green flag. Isn't that refreshing? He never force-kisses Sha Lou (two kisses were initiated by Sha Lou, two kisses were consensually initiated, and one kiss was initiated by Ao Chi); he's very gentle and loving toward her. If he says something a bit harsh to her during conflicts about Zimiao's raise or accidentally attacks her, he will apologize to her right away. He respects and encourages her dream to be free. Even when he's jealous, he never loses his cool. The scenes where he attacks Zimiao don't stem from jealousy, but rather from a personal feud between the two of them.

No, different scriptwriter, different production company too. Like I said, things like editing, music, CGs, promotion will be outsourced; not all of it is because of the director. Except for big directors who have more control, Chinese directors mostly control cinematography, camera work, plot flow, and pacing. Fusheng's script is okay, not cheesy, at least with the draft script that I read

Well, well, well.... who is here after realizing that this is the same director as Overdo? Are we scared yet?…
To be honest, the problem with Overdo isn't just the director. The plot itself is incredibly cheesy. The whole family drama involving the male lead feels like something I've randomly come across in countless TikTok clips; I can't even count how many similar audio dramas I've heard with the exact same storyline. I think they were aiming for that short-drama style, but it doesn't quite land.

They rewrote the novel plot and removed the red-flag setting from the male lead, but still tried to keep the typical dominant CEO short-drama style like forced kisses and over-the-top dialogue that make his character feels out of place without a clear image. As a result, the female lead ends up becoming the red-flag character instead, making her less likable and causing viewers to feel less sympathy for her compared to the novel

The dialogue is also super cringe, which makes it nearly impossible for the actors to deliver a natural performance.

That said, the director really isn't very skilled, but his historical works have never been this bad before. The Princess's Gambit's directing is ok; it's just the writing that is so bad. So I'm hoping Fusheng falls into the better half of his portfolio. Also, aspects like editing, music, and promotional materials including that AI-generated intro are usually handled by an outsource production company, so we can't pin the entire failure on the director.

And Fusheng hasn't even wrapped filming yet, not even one poster come out so let's not doom-post just yet, haha.

That's why I said: "Having children or not" is too big a spoiler for this drama, haha. We can say that they did and also did not have children". I won't spoil this one

Yes, this happens after Ao Chi proposed to Sha Lou, they time-travel at the time they are taking their wedding photos. After escaping, Ao Chi and Sha Lou will end up together (he and the other two are the ones who rescue her after receiving her call-for-help note). He made a marriage promise to Chu Jiang, but Chu Jiang is pretty cool about it. I'll share some funny parts about that:

Sha Lou: I just feel like... we don't really seem like husband and wife.

Zimiao: (smiling gently) What nonsense are you saying? You've just lost your memory. Once the blood stasis in your brain clears, you'll naturally remember how much we love each other.

△ Sha Lou looks into his affectionate eyes, half doubtful, half trusting, and finally nods.

△ Ao Chi walks over with Sister Na and Chu Jiang. Seeing this scene, he can't help but frown. A sharp pain suddenly shoots through his heart, forcing him to clutch his chest and look away. Because of that, he misses the moment when Sha Lou, feeling the same pull, also frowns and clutches her chest while instinctively looking toward him — their reactions perfectly in sync.

△ Both Sister Na and Chu Jiang notice Ao Chi's reaction.

Chu Jiang: (softly) Are you interested in that Lady Zhao?

Ao Chi: (withdrawing his gaze, shaking his head) No. I just feel like I've seen Lady Zhao somewhere before.

Chu Jiang: If you really are interested, I can call off our engagement and give you to them as a servant.

Ao Chi: (firmly declining) No need. I have no intention of getting involved with a married woman.

△ His refusal is resolute, but his eyes instinctively drift back toward Sha Lou.

This is basically the whole plot for the first half of the Warring States period arc, where five people time-travel. Zimiao's ultimate move makes Ao Chi and Sha Lou forget their past, and he lies to Sha Lou that he is her husband. Meanwhile, Ao Chi is rescued by Chu Jiang (Chengxiao), so he makes a promise to marry her. When Ao Chi and Sha Lou meet again, time after time, they realize they are attracted to each other but because of their respective circumstances, they still keep their distance. Sha Lou finds it weird that she doesn't feel comfortable with Zimiao's affection, yet feels Ao Chi is strangely familiar. Sha Lou wants to break things off with Zimiao; he pretends to agree but secretly tries to imprison her. Then Sha Lou tries to escape.

Yeah, there is, but this is also one of the most annoying arcs beside the Bone/ Fox Demon. When I read this part, I just wanted to kill Zimiao. He's so shameless. He made Ao Chi and Sha Lou forget each other, and then he had the audacity to pretend to be Sha Lou's husband. And this happens after Ao Chi and Sha Lou were already engaged

This drama is so stingy with promotional stuff. Almost zero content, and the only official still is the birthday post for Qin Tianyu. I need a trailer to see Yi Jun's directing for this drama. I could tell from the Overdo trailer that the drama wouldn't satisfy me, and I was right, but it also had plot and dialogue issues, not just directing. I read the script of Fusheng and fell in love with Ao Chi and Sha Lou. Please don't ruin them, Yi Jun. His historical drama is not that bad so I hope Overdo is just one-time attempt at mimicking short drama style

The script for Fusheng is different, not the short drama type, and it has a lot of ancient parts. Yi Jun 's historical drama is not bad so I hope Fusheng will have better directing

No scenes together in the Xianxia era since Sha Lou only has human form after Cangzhu (Ao Chi) died/disappeared, and the Xianxia era is quite short, so I think they are done filming that era already or just need one-two more days of filming. They will share scenes in the Warring States period when the official filming for this era starts

About 11 cases, not count the demon at the beginning that make Ao Chi's and Sha Lou's one-night stand happen since it's super short case, she is also one of main support character who will be in Sha Lou side

It has a happy ending, but in the draft script I have, it's kind of a 'How Dare You!?' type of ending. I hope the final script can extend the modern-day scenes a little more. If not, you can use the novel's content as supplementary material.

A demon disguises herself as Sha Lou to seduce men. Ao Chi, a young marshall , is responsible for apprehending a gang of thugs in the demon's area of operation. The demon attempts to bewitch Ao Chi but fails. Later, Ao Chi encounters Sa Lou, still mistaking her for the demon, and tries to capture her. During their confrontation, the demon is also there, fearing Sha Lou will get into trouble and seek revenge (Sha Lou is a very powerful tree demon) and unleashing her full bewitching power in the form of smoke. Both Ao Chi and Sha Lou are affected by this power, resulting in a one-night stand (also influenced by their own physical attraction to each other, which is another spoiler for the plot later)

You remember what happened to Ao Chi in the novel just before their modern-day reunion. The drama will have a similar situation occurring in the pre-modern era then lead to modern time

In the drama, Ao Chi has significantly more screen time than in the novel. While Sha Lou might appear a little more in the drama, I think Ao Chi is the heart of the storyline. He's also become a much more active character. He's the one who redeemed Sha Lou and helped her to find her freedom. I really enjoyed the dialogues between them. Ao Chi is very gentle and loving towards Sha Lou. He sacrificed so much for her, even more than in the novel. He forgave and gave up so much for Sha Lou. In the novel, their love spanned thousands of years and was already established; we only see its gradual development through flashbacks, whereas in the film, when they first met during the Republic era, we witnessed their love from its very beginning.

"Having children or not" is too big a spoiler for this drama, haha. We can say that they did and also did not have children, haha. I think you can count this drama as a prequel to the modern content in the novel since most stories in the drama are from pre-modern days. Even if the plots of pre-modern-day novels and dramas are quite different, you can remove the pre-modern-day part of the novel by the plot of the drama and use the rest of the novel for something that will happen after the drama ends.
