It was a good show for the most part. It was entertaining. The leads did well. They had good chemistry. This was one of those rare occasions where the ending of a Chinese historical is well written. Unfortunately at the end, I felt that there was too much story. It felt like subplot saturation. When you reach the final plot and listen to the "grand plan", you realise that much of what had happened was not necessary. Even if those storylines didn't happen, they would have still ended up at the same place. It's confusing as to why the villain orchestrated those events when they had no relevance to the ending. Hence 7.5 or 8
Happy or sad ending? On episode 2. What did FL do to ML in the beginning of ep 1? She gave him something on his…
Happy ending. She put a curse saying that if she dies, he will perish as well. So will everyone in the sect. That is the curse mark on his face. She took the fall for the ML, so he felt guilty. Hence he revives her at his own expense but tells everyone it's to undo the curse she put on him
The buildup in the first half is one of the most satisfying storylines in chinese historicals. A small family setup in a town dealing with town stuff was very refreshing in this genre. The character development even under false pretences was great. You want the lies to stop but you know that this comfortable happiness bubble is going to burst once everything is revealed. Although politics took centre stage in the second half, the short scenes where their story continued was rewarding. The opening theme song was great. Overall, it was a very entertaining watch
Some infuriatingly stupid decisions being made here. What kind of rollercoaster is this. There are some genuinely…
This was a heavily one sided relationship. You need to tune out a lot of logic to follow the story. Eg. The FL held a grudge for so long that the ML mistakenly attacked and killed some of her troupe meanwhile she and her bodyguard massacred a lot of people from the ML'S army. When the ML is doing everything possible for her, she says she trusts him but immediately proceeded to ignore him and his plan and jump off a cliff. Literally. She was ignorant of him and his feelings for the most part. The 50-50 solutions that they came up at the end felt like a sell out. It's as if they couldn't take a firm stance on how to end, so they settled. The princess's relationship was basically a hostage situation for almost the entire show. The support character's shenanigans was more interesting in some parts. Overall a generous 7/10
Some infuriatingly stupid decisions being made here. What kind of rollercoaster is this. There are some genuinely good scenes where these two smart characters have a good understanding of each other and then there are some decisions being made that completely destroy everything they built until then. I guess that's why it's called a drama
It's actually a good watch. I was left guessing on how each character would react in the first half and the ensemble gets good in the second half. So overall it's an entertaining watch. It certainly can be rated higher.
At ep 29: Although I've watched many shows, I have only seen a few of this genre. So I might have missed a few things. So could someone please help me understand: 1. Why does the FL think the ML is a good person? When we are introduced to these characters in the beginning, the FL finds out about the ML's past and feels sorry for him. This is totally understandable. What happened to him was horrible. With those things in mind, she decides to protect from. Fine. She tries to break this evil myth that everyone spreads about him. Fine. But he really falls short. Even when he has the opportunity, he doesn't save the people on the boat until much later. He kills his clansmen who pretended to be possessed (it was faked, but this info wasn't known until much later). Sure the goddess saw that there is hope when she saw his conscience but that does not prove that he's good. And after so many episodes I don't know who she's trying to convince: him, us or herself. 2. Naivete of the goddess: She seems to not realise that people can have a thirst for revenge. How? She's lived for 1000 years. Before she became a goddess she did live amongst humans. So she should understand human emotions, good and bad. However she seems oblivious or pretend to ignore that fact. 3. The story would be completely different depending on who she met first. The gods are indifferent to everyone. Likewise the immortals look down upon humans and the demons are generally hated. It's just a pecking order of who is stronger/lives longer. If she had met those human craftsmen who blew up that ship and took pity on how badly they were oppressed, she would have stood up against the very same immortal clan and said these humans are good people. She again would have tried her best to steer them away from the path of bloodshed. The gods are not good either. They can support whoever they want and rationale it to fit their narrative 4. World building? As this is a fantasy, it relies on the viewer to imagine and comprehend the world. But what I've noticed is most of it is almost like a question-answer format. Ml: what's this field around the mountain FL: it's a formation made up of...... It's like a fact is thrown at you. Accept it and it's relevance is until this episode ends. Let's move onto the next challenge on our journey. I think I'll still continue because alot of people have rated this well, so maybe it will improve. I did like the beginning and the comedy
I know, there isnβt any romance, but do the female lead and the male lead have a good chemistry? I mean, do…
It's more of a work partnership. It's a very wholesome cast.... I remember having a great time whenever the trio was on screen. The comedy was to my taste as well. You should give it a watch.
Did anyone else find the ml's sister's arc very heavy for otherwise a light drama.... The extent to which she was used was painful.... I really felt the ml's pain, rage and anguish when he found out ....
This was a wild ride with no brakes... don't think, enjoy it, and you'll find it hilarious. Suddenly got serious in the last 2 episodes, but ended in a classic jdrama rom-com style. A good entertainer when you need a break from serious dramas
