I freaking loved this drama! Overall it was really good. My one complaint was the climax with the "bad guy" his…
that would have been a very action-packed ending but don't you think it's a tried and tested ending? in this show every time you expect a conflict to escalate to a full-blown confrontation, they go 180 and try to resolve it. Recall when the brother of the deceased gf of the group's youngest member barged into the office? The scene's tone changes completely as soon as the ML realised who he was.
I honestly thought they might have the assistant prosecutor confess at the end and she’s so perfect for him,…
I thought so too. Honestly, they gave so much screen time for the prosecutor following the fl everywhere until the end, that there was no time to fully portray the assistant. When the fl was attacked, he blamed the ml saying "you said you will protect her". I was like, dude you were right there and what did you achieve other than getting knocked out yourself. Anyway still enjoyed the show for the most part.
Most stress free drama of the year. This had great unique characters. Before I began this drama I thought it would be very risky if the show just white washed their pasts and showed them as perfect people, but what impressed me was how the characters did not shy away from their past actions and were conscious about it while trying to do better with their second chance at life. I really appreciate how ml protected his father. They tried something new with the ending and didn't go with a tried and tested climax scene. Throughout the show the message was to try and do better this time and the final stuck with it, thus, fitting perfectly with the story. The comedy elements were intentionally cringe with overacting making them genuinely funny. In my opinion, the prosecutor was the weakest link. His character arch started and ended the same way: an onlooker. His only improvement was moving past his bias against the ml. I feel bad for his assistant. She missed her chance and is waiting for him to move on. All said and done it was a well made show with a great cast and a high rewatch value. 9/10
This. When too many things come together when theres only few episodes left it all feels frustrating because of…
When it comes to the father I think the writers have not been able to commit to the type of character his is. It left like they were feeling things out as the story progresses to solidify his character only at the end. There is so little info on his character that I don't understand why I should be scared of him. The cat guy's eccentricity makes him unpredictable and thus more terrifying. The show has a tight rope to walk and it all falls down on how well the next episode is executed
This drama has mediated all conflicts in a very mature manner until now. I think this was done to make the final confrontation with the dad more impactful. Although ep 13 and 14 showed progress in their relationships(some great feel-good moments), they kept teasing the conflict with the gang of thugs without any payoff. This cycle of intense scenes with no outcome has repeated in the last few episodes, is the reason I think people are now finding this show a bit dragging. This is also the reason why the ending of ep 14 didn't startle me. The second she started walking down the dark alley alone(drama logic: sigh) the outcome was expected. However, all of this can be overlooked if they stick the landing and end the show properly. This show has a high rewatch value. So now the ML either sticks to his ideals or goes to the dark side to fight his father. Either way, if the ending is satisfying and fits the story, this would be one of the most entertaining dramas of this year... Hoping for a good finale!
Ep13... Why is it that, whenever the ML tells the FL to stay at home (to be safe) does she attempt to find her freedom and walk down a dark alley all alone? They were setting up for a sweet reunion but all I was feeling was stress. I was so sure she'll get kidnapped before they were reunited.... The twist this drama is using is going for happy moments at every juncture where we traumatized viewers except something bad to happen.
Exactly. Someone finally said it. In sister Kim's voice: hallelujah.Their friendship/chemistry felt so forced.…
This was the only weak point in otherwise a fantastic drama. So definitely continue watching it. The remaining characters definitely make up for it with great acting and story. Look past this and you'll have a great time.
Can someone please explain what this drama wanted to convey....
The story started fine in the first few episodes with the leads slowly building their relationship. The SML pursued the FL while accusing the ML. The SFL thinks she is the most suitable for the ML and sabotages the FL. The ML's mother disapproves of the FL. This is quite normal in this genre. But then the plot gets stuck. The same dialogues and arguments keep repeating, only the location of these encounters changes from China to France. The SML keeps stalking the FL even after she refuses his advances. After 30-35 episodes of the ML being bullied by the SML, his sister shows up and you realise it was completely unnecessary. They stretched it out for so long that I was dumbfounded. At the same time, you have to watch a documentary-style explanation of traditional Chinese fashion where the solution to every problem is the traditional embroidery that the FL is good at. I understand when shows like to promote their culture and was interesting in the beginning but later felt like a 15-minute product placement every couple of episodes. This might have gone unnoticed if the plot moved along as well. After all this, the SML's sister is cured, all the atrocious behaviour of the supporting characters is forgotten in a few minutes and now they are all friends. By the time you digest this, there is a time skip and the leads are now married. Some random guy popped up from nowhere and is now pursuing the SFL. The show is about to end but the disapproving mother-in-law still hasn't changed her stance. It ends with a wedding and a call-back to their childhood memory. ..... There was no payoff to the story. What was the point of all this? I'm not being hateful but am I missing something?
Can't these shows go without having to tease tension between ML and a female even when the ML is a Catholic priest?…
Exactly. Someone finally said it. In sister Kim's voice: hallelujah. Their friendship/chemistry felt so forced. In every scene the female prosecutor is placed right next to the ml and whenever he had a bad day only her character was allowed to approach him. It's as if the writer and director were forcing us to pair them together. Why doesn't this phenomenon occur in romcoms? Because that's where it's really required but noooo.... There they'll show the sfl consoling the ml creating more confusion and Drama. I was hoping she pays for her mistakes but they just let her off in the name of a happy ending
