I agree. And not just chinese. There were some intimate shots characterisitic for more "personal style movies". It's been used in Anmerican movies a few times bit it;s not really common in Korean cinema as far as I've seen. I liked tose pauses and silences charged with emotions and thoughts. I also agree. They gathered a very strong cast. Kim Ok Bin was really refreshing for a princess. I checked mostly on wikipedia and the new king was meant to be a pawn, I gather and he was a pawn, there were moments I couldn't believe he's still the same young and caring person, I guess he grew very disappointed in himself and his choice because he continued to be used by the grey eminence that the general ultimately was in this context. There was a clear imbalance of power that's ultimately never healthy. The General was definitely presented as a man who couldn't compromise on certain matters
