This reminds me, from the description, of a Bollywood movie with Sharukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan, where SRK played…
yes indeed, I forgot, thanks for reminding me of the title.

I think poetry, among others is one that needs an emotional impact to connect with it. For years now,I've never been quiet enough to connect with any poetry at all, or maybe I haven't found anything in my current mood that I tend to be in to connect with. I'm still searching for the poetry to connect with, though I loved the English Romantics. I never connect with poetry in busy spaces either - it seems difficult. In crowded spaces I like to drown in the crowds, there is just a feeling there, sometimes lonely but it's fascinating to have a sense of meetings crossing in space and feel the uniqueness of selves, though sometimes moving in one big mass. Like leaving the underground during rush hours, it's a very particular experience. I have officially added Priestly to my :to explore: lists. And now I think I will go drown into a sleep. Fun talking to you, as usual! Have a nice Sunday!

Moby Dick is one of my favourite novels, but American literature somehow was never among my favourites either, with an exception of a few titles. Balzac and definitely Victor Hugo. Ishiguro is an interesting writer too and oh Dostoyevsky and Camus. Antonia Byatt and her sister from contemporary writer are also interesing, In fact Drabble had an interesting story on Red queen where she was reaching for Korean history. I am also all set to read a bit of Atwood, since I never have really. And Angela Carter, I am interested in her fairy tales. I will now have some time to catch up with some of that reading. But then I also want to explore some science fiction...particularly steam punk. Just when do I do that, I wonder.

Austen, Hardy and Eliott definitely.George Eliott was such an impressive character for her times, very progressively minded. I loved Wuthering Heights as well at some point. And then Northanger Abbey was something that really laughed at the gothic convention and I absolutely loved that novel. I was impressed with Fowles' imagination, I like some of the postmodernist playfulness, though I do find it a bit pretentious at times, but Fowles is a dedicated scholar/writer and so I find him more easily appreciable. The French Lieutenant's woman is a benchmark novel that is also quite unique and I find myself very drawn to the intertextual potential of Lyme Regis. I love Jorge Luis Borges, his philosophical ideas suit my mindset as he reflects on inifinity, alternative paths, forking paths, endless libraries, he's a genuine inspiration for me. I liked Melville, actually.

I have never heard about Priestly, to be honest, it;s not something that ever cropped up during my courses and then somehow I never bumped into him. What was his engaged with? You know what, it's never too late to learn polish :P As I do agree, reading literature in original language helps to appreciate more of its nuances. Koreans use it in their dramas sometimes, as it turns out and it's interesting because to them it sounds like it is an exotic language. Very strange feeling, that. haha. I am happy you like Szymborska. Shes a very observant and sensitive poet, sensitive to the unoqieness of observation, makes experience of seeing fresh, and free from threadbare certainities. . You are aware she passed away this year? I haven't read much of those Germeans writers, either, except for Kafka, for some reason I never really got into German literature.
