Lee Junho is a must watch Korean actor for me, whatever he chooses. His acting skills are fun to watch since he can breath life into any character and make them nuanced, exciting and sympathetic. It would be interesting to see how he transforms from heart-wrenching melodramatic role in TRS into a comedic one in KTL.
On the other hand I tried reading See You in My 19th Life as a webtoon awhile ago, but it didn't stick. So I am sceptical about the drama even if I like Shin Hye Sun. I feel like it might be too much plot-driven for my liking. But I will check it out at some point.
What are you talking about? There has always been only one director for this drama - Im Hyun Wook.
Chun Sung-il is a screenwriter by craft and was never meant to direct anything. He remains as original creator of King the Land, but he didn't write the detailed script.
Premise from official KTL site https://tv.jtbc.co.kr/plan/pr10011590 Gu Won was thrown into King Hotel inheritance war, Cheon Sarang, who first entered King Hotel as a one-month trainee.
A among A, B among B The unknown world that each other couldn't even imagine, met. There are people in the world who have to smile/laugh regardless of their will. There are people who do not have a problem even if they do not force themselves to smile/laugh. To someone smile/laughter is a survival tool, while for others it is generosity. In everyday life a smiling face is convenient. A is comforting to look at, B is comfortable because (s)he can hide him(her)self. In the meantime, smile/laughter remains as a symbol and the truth disappears . This drama is the story of people setting out to create days in which they can sincerely smile brightly together. Which one do you think will do better btw these three new dramas??? 1. King The land2. Revenant3. See You in My…
I would have agreed in general, but Lee Junho is very popular in Korea these days. I expect a lot of people there will tune in for episode 1. The rest though will depend on the quality of the drama.
Okay, I don't get it. I know there are a lot of comments about this but I still feel like adding my 2 cents in.…
I get having some misgivings about the title, but also let's wait for the show to air and maybe there might be a point for this specific wording, like a pun or a joke or something else. Look at all the wacky character names: Cheon Sarang (Angel Love), Gu Won (Salvation) etc., I won't be surprised if it's all intentional. ps. I didn't vibe with Joongki's Italian π
Yea. I am worried that this is too similar to βThe Business Proposal (TBP)β & what actually draws LJH to take…
If you watched the latest teaser that introduces Gu Won (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZLoheEJbIM) Junho's CEO in KTL is nothing like CEO from Business Proposal. With all due respect to Ahn Hyo Seop I hardly remember his portrayal of CEO having any memorable characteristics except looking handsome. Junho's Gu Won is already looking like a riot.
lol its terrible romanization. just like 'Bo ra, Deborah' and plenty more.
I think it's not meant to be 'Kingdom", but strictly 'King', because King is the name of the conglomerate group in the drama. I'll wait until Netflix starts promoting the drama - they might tweak the title a little to make more sense.
Whenever they show a scene of the ML catching the FL in that supposedly "romantic" pose, I just have to sigh and…
It's such a kdrama staple I trained myself not to mind it any more, but in this teaser actors' faces, camera angles and editing is just so inelegant and clumsy π If we have to suffer through it (the things I do for Lee Junho) I hope the actual scene will look better in the drama.
This drama is a mess and then some. ML is an emotionally constipated dickhead with anger issues, FL has zero self…
Exactly same sentiment. This drama somehow has quality to it and keeps you interested overall, but all characters are completely unrelatable and not particularly captivating. I am still baffled why I kept watching it till the end. I even laughed at all the comedic antics in the last episode π (comedy finally worked for me after 17 episodes π ). But otherwise, a total train wreck that you can't look away from.
Pretty interesting - am I seeing this right that screenwriter is a rookie/this is their first major production?
Yes, the writer is a rookie lady. But for better or worse I think the overall drama direction is being overseen by the writer of All of Us Are Dead. He was credited as creator of the drama in Korean press.
His agency should do better job in selecting roles for him, considering his so deep acting talent
His agency is essentially an idol-only agency (JYP Entertainment), so Junho is mostly managing his acting career on his own. So I think, as with The Red Sleeve, he picked this script by himself (after reportedly receiving around 100 scripts after TRS). I am sceptical about King The Land, but he usually has a good eye for scripts, so hopefully these is more to this drama than meets the eye.
I enjoyed this drama a lot along with its fast-paced plot and characters. Episode cliffhangers were very well chosen to keep you wanting to keep watching. Characters were interesting and stayed true to themselves. I liked that there were no redemption for the bad guys, just them paying their dues.
The only exception was Joo Yeo Jung - the surgeon boy aka the love interest. I don't know if it was how the character was written or it was Lee Do Hyun's acting (which was surprising to me since I liked his acting in Sweet Home), but I didn't care for him, his story, nor his feelings for the FL. Probably a case of miscast for the drama overall.
Otherwise the show is an entertaining and mostly satisfying run, well written and directed. Kudos.

Looks fun! Junho getting back to his Seo Yul comedic vibes. π
