I think it is deliberate move from both writers and directors. It is not like Jin goo and IU cannot show romance. They even had some really romantic moments as well. But it is being deliberately down played imo, because of the situation of the characters. But i like it. I find it more natural.. CS is not sent to marry and have babies with MW lol. He is sent to send MW to afterlife without grudges or regrets. He is doing his job really well. He looks after her, is really patient handles well when she is throuwing tantrums. And slowly making her understand that holding grudges this long is not worth at all. But she will also learn that the current descendents of that family cannot be blamed for something their ancestors did. Man weol's story was also sad. At the end it seemed CM used CSs body to appear infront of MW. MW has touched CS manytimes and she was able to tell the difference, that was amazing. I hope MW and CM can resolve their issue soon. I feel funny when people complain about lack of chemistry between the main leads. I think there is plenty of chemistry but in a more calmer way. With their circumstances they cannot be passionate lovers or cute lovers. They are lovers who has care and empathy for each other and who understand each other better. Though CM loved her, he couldn't understand that letting her live by killing her men would not save her at the end. It made her a mad killer and a 1000 year old despicable being unable to move on. In her own words the hotel really was a hell to her. So it didn't ultimately save her. Even her enemies like song hwa was able to move on and start somewhat better life as Mira, while MW was stuck in the ghost hotel to almost eternity until CS showed up.

Its not this crazy passionate one. It is like falling in love with a terminally ill someone knowing that he/she will die in a short time. But you can care about them and love them. Their love is close to reality because it took its time. Most k dramas have unrealistic love stories where the guy and girl falls for each other immediately, they have this crazy chemistry from the beginning and all, when in reality that is not how it happens when you are seriously falling in love.

In the past man weol was a human girl like anyone else. Fell in love with the wrong person and got betrayed. I think its hard to them to create a bond now. When she is literary dead and about to move on to the afterworld. She was sent to heaven probably because despite hiding chung sungs existence she lived a good life. She didn't abort chung sung. Willingly or unwillingly she kept him and went through all the difficulties or agonies of pregnancy to give him life. Maybe she was an unwed mother which is frowned upon in korea and many other asian countries. So she probably had a hard time. Chung sungs father was a thief before so she probably didn't want to live with such a man, who knows. But now it will be awkward for them to have a tearful embrace and a reunion because still chung sung cannot be warm to up her maybe because of resentment or simply because not knowing her. She can't warm up to him because of the guilt.

Second lead syndrome kicking on those people who support him. Not that they care CM did it for a noble reason or not haha. If you cause harm by doing something to one party of the problem it is not noble. It is just being cunning. Not just MW, CM betrayed YW too. Even YW trusted him, drank with him. He even let MW go to CM and even said its ok to not to come back (meaning its okay to go with CM leaving him behind). Because he trusted him that much. At the end YW saw how sad MW is and smiled at her to cheer her up, just seconds before getting hanged. That was the sad part. Not CMs situation, whatever it was..
