I'm not completely caught up on the drama nor do I know what parts you're talking about from the trailer -- I'm going off purely what I know from the book.
I do believe the nether world part is BEFORE the 60,000 year sacrifice is made though

She's bad, but like @Clarawest said, it's really pathetic evil because she's really weak and lowkey does nothing of value

What happens in the book is something like this: 60,000 years ago was the sacrifice, and the show is currently at the 300 years ago because after those 300 years, Shanggu "awakens" and then forgets those 300 years and her life as Houchi.
The "deep sleep" doesn't necessarily mean not existing -- I think her life as Houchi is part of her "deep sleep" because it's before her "awakening" as a true god etc etc.

Shanggu is actually later revealed not to be Wu Huan's daughter (though at the beginning you are supposed to believe that Houchi is Wu Huan's daughter. Yes, she is a reincarnation of Shanggu). Bai Jue plans a marriage with Wu Huan's real daughter in order to get other things (that actually benefit Shanggu), but obviously he cancels it before anything happens.

by the way, has anyone forgotten Jeon Ye Seul's bruised?/injured wrist from like the first episode??? i wonder when that's going to come into play o.O -- i think her and her sus "hubby" is just a red herring but still wondering what's going on there
