I wouldn't call this "ancient time" in god realm. I'd say "ancient time" was like pre-Houchi, as in the era before Shanggu's sacrifice. Her sacrifice marks a pretty big turning point.

Based on book: This is not a dream or alternate storyline! It's a pretty normal storyline. Everything happens and is real—there's just a lot of memory loss going on. Basically she "loses" her memories because this is sort of her reincarnation, and she'll get her memories back when she reawakens as Shanggu. Yes, Bai Jue finds a way to make her spirit live on! Yes, it explains eventually the truth of what happened.

Based off book: the marriage part is pretty minor imo and doesn't last too long. Yes, Houchi (before reawakening as Shanggu) falls in love with Bei Jue's reincarnation (Bai Jue's reincarnation--I'll call it that for now--is in love with Houchi too, and he's really just setting up that marriage w the real daughter of Wu Huan for completely not love-related reasons dw).
