I was really interested in watching this but the subs on iQiyi are so bad. I really tried powering through but the intro alone was so confusing that I gave up ☹️ I’ve never had this issue before so I’m really bummed, I would hope they maybe use AI subs as backup until the show is able to be subbed properly but I have no idea how that works.
It’s absolute trash and I love it. If you’re looking for a plot-heavy adventure, look elsewhere. If you’re here for the visuals, chemistry, and want to watch a bad tropey fanfic come to life, you’re in the right spot!
I don't watch this drama, but I watched Revenge of Begonia. His character there is cold, but loves the FL so much…
Did we watch the same drama?? 😂 He loved the FL but was also very much a red flag. And so was she. They both had some iffy qualities which is probably why they worked as a couple lol
Was hoping for really steamy kisses typical of republican mini dramas, plus I loved Ke Ying in A Familiar Stranger (which I thought was pretty steamy for a cdrama). but I'm pretty disappointed. The leads have awesome chemistry and tension but when their lips touch it's just not doing anything for me (Ke Ying babe you gotta move your lips girl!!!!)
Thinking about watching this. How does this compare with to The Guest? Which one's better?
Does The Guest have romance? I'm really interested in watching it but the hopeless romantic in me wants to see some chemistry, even if it's just crumbs lol
I LOVED this drama and am forever disappointed there's no S2. Honestly this is so fun to watch; the characters are all unique and fleshed out, the plot was crazy and creepy without being too hard to follow, and the MUSIC!! This is the drama that got me into horror dramas and now I'm hooked.
I wanted to love this so badly. Hua Zhi is probably my favorite female lead I've seen in a looong time; she was badass without being emotionless, and soft without being a pushover. For me personally, I just didn't think this was a good role for Hu Yi Tian--he has such a soft face and that really didn't help with his intimidating Commander persona, and on top of that there was a lot of over-acting on his part. In the end, I just didn't feel chemistry between the leads, even though I love the idea of their characters. I love Hu Yi Tian in a lot of his other projects, and this is not a "bad" show by any means--if anyone is on the fence, I still recommend watching it, even if I ended up not loving it. There's a great plot, lots of awesome characters, and again, one of the best female leads!
I genuinely wanted to enjoy this for the guilty pleasure it was, but as an adopted child, it's very difficult to watch stories about biological mothers appearing out of the blue and deciding they want their child back. **Minor spoilers ahead but I consider this a trigger warning for folks like me who may be really disturbed about how adoption is portrayed.**
Granted, every adoption case/situation is different; I'm not saying a joint-custody sort of arrangement between a biological family and an adoptive family can't work in real life, but this show's take on it was a MASSIVE red flag. The biological mother's brother is a horrible person, the adoptive dad barely puts up a fight, and in the end, they let the freaking 5 year old kid decide who to live with full-time. Adoption can be a super tricky subject, and I'm not trying to start any debates on morality or what "family" means in different societies. For me, personally, it's very triggering to watch a child be handed back and forth just because a biological mother changed her mind a few years down the road.
I paused on EP 12 when they were introducing a new wife for him. According to earlier comments, the divorce will…
Don’t drop it! There’s no love triangle; the new wife is as opposed to the marriage as the main couple but she and the FL have such a wholesome and sweet teacher/student friendship. They use the forced marriage as an opportunity to advance the prince’s standing and teach the FL how to run a household. It’s amazing, such a refreshing dynamic.
Mysterious Love (almost the exact same plot)
Love of Replica
And basically any Republican mini drama like Maid’s Revenge (mentioned), Passionate Love, Revenge of Begonia, Miss Mystery, etc.
