The delimma of coming across opposite opinions in reviews. However, you have it in the form of a spoiler so I appreciate the directness and I'll give it a try. thanks 😉⚘️
I want to watch it, but 53 episodes intimidates me....How slow burn of a romance are we talking about to warrent so many episodes? How would you rate the romance from ice cube to sizzling hot?
very cute light hearted short watch. Tells a pretty good fall into novel story from start to finish for the length that it is with choppy edits. Highly recommend if your looking for a "mind cleanse" after watch heavy ansty dramatic long series, this is the balm to lift the spirit.
is it that bad? whats with the rating? The guy looks pretty handsome. Will prob watch it for him.
I am usually fairly generous with my ratings, however even I rated it a 5.5.
I can't fault the actors for their acting skills in this, though the FL drove me crazy for the great majority of it with her personality-that said, I believe that was sadly an intentional part of the character that certainly could have been written better. Even for stories that are just a "take it as it is" to watch this has so many issues. There are odd time jumps to tell the story, some characters are way over the top or are just completely unnecessary, and the poor FL's costume made me want to go through my TV and snatch that thing off her head so many times it was so distracting. The chemistry between the ML and FL is OK but but if I were to rate in degrees of freezing to sizzling for the romance factor in scenes you will only get room temperature at the very best. Kiss scenes were frozen fish kisses or hidden and far away shots.
For a mini series it does at least tell a cohesive story from start to finish, but definitely not worth rewatching. (I watched mine on YouTube, so I didn't hear any OST of there was one, so I can't really comment on that.)
He should be crowned the new King of Kisses...goodness gracious. And his range of acting? He can go from cold to hot with just a glance. Seriously, this gentleman needs longer shows. Don't get me wrong I have no problem binging his whole series in 2hrs or so, but I would much rather he be given more screen time to wow the crowds with his magic. I so look forward to the next new release.
By now I have re-watched this drama more than 10 times still can't get enough of this drama, each time it feels…
All of his dramas end this way? 😭😭😭 Noooooo! I need at least a few rainbows with my rain. But if I must I'll bring an umbrella and weather the storm for him because he has such dynamic talent. And that scene in eps 17 has to be the best ever (hmm not sure how to say it without revealing spoilers) "couple" moment.
I usually read the reviews and comments before watching a series, so don't you know one of the few times I don't would be this one? I rarely am left slack-jawwed by a show, yet this certainly accomplished that in spades. I do however think it should come with a warning tag; see my comment below for the reason.
Storywise it's is definitely not for everyone, that said I think they did a decent job and kudos to being different from the rest.
acting wise, sorry that fell flat for me. The kiss scenes literally looked frozen most of the time and the action was literally missing, as in he is a bodyguard several mentions of altercations but you never see it??? (I should clarify there is no action on the main lead who is supposed to be a bodyguard)
Overall, still worth a watch as long as you don't have issues with the warning tags below.
Now I have completely finished it…The plot is as thin as steam from a shower, the kisses resemble lethargic…
I read that too fast and saw "kisses...steam from a shower" and got my hopes up for the briefest of moments (like Melting Me Softly)...then I read it again and my bubble was sufficient burst.😭
IMHO Any actor/actress that agrees to be in a romance should pass a "chemistry/kiss" screen test with there counter parts before shooting the series to give time to either train or trade.
Beware of the longer trailers(on Viki) as they will give away all the best scenes. If you want to enjoy the passion these wonderful actors can seriously stir together, don't watch the trailers. Otherwise it will leave you a bit disappointed waiting with anticipation and then...Wait!...I've seen all this already🤔 There's nothing more?🫠 Boo. ---Do not get me wrong, great chemistry, lots of passion just all revealed before hand takes away something from it IMHO.
I don't know about you, but this is the main reason I fast forward as quick I'm am able at the beginning and end of all the series as so many of them have what will happen in the series. (I have yet to figure the purpose for this) This is just my preference, to see it as the story unfolds. If it's yours too, then I hope this has helped as It is definitely worth the watch. 😉
It's pretty presumptious to feel "horrible for the actress" because of a role she willingly took. I bring this…
You do have a valid point that the actor could be just if not more so uncomfortable. I feel bad for all those involved, including the production team that had to watch it, even knowing it's fake it's hard to watch, I can't even imaging being right there in the room. That said you also made my point as well. While the GOT actress may have enjoyed her part (so she says, she may have been told by her managers/handlers to say this to make it ok- we don't know the whole truth), the actor as you say, didn't and had to endure it.
I'm sure I may get push back from this next statement, however: Western/US shows are known for their over the top explicitness that seems to permeate every show out there. Asian shows on the other hand, have characters that can move you just by how they look at each other. They invoke such strong feeling that build anticipation just off the simplest of gestures like holding hands or that first embrace. Not to mention they can make you laugh, cry and (yes a few times) even yell at your screen from the dialog alone. Its part of the reason I switched (or mainly watch) -That and the fact series are done from start to finish and actually tell a story in its entirety, where US shows drop like flies and leave you hanging wondering what happens next...but I digress :-)
So when this show came along with those scenes, that while seems like a mundane and ordinary occurrence of violence to other shows elsewhere, it just isn't something I would expect joining the ranks. It wasn't necessary to tell the story and seemed more like "gotcha scenes" to make itself standout.
One last note and I will hope off my soap box. As for the actor/actress being forced to do the scenes or knowingly/willingly taking the part. Your right I don't know, though neither do you. However, I do know scripts constantly change/get rewritten during production and having these scenes added after the fact is a strong possibility. And unfortunately no actor/actress would be willing to end their career by walking off set or outright refusing to do the scene.
This is one of those dramas where its and either or group. If you love it, you will find that your cheeks will hurt from smiling too much if you dare to binge watch. The voices and songs will steal your hearts and you will find yourself either humming or singing along. You will find yourself rewatch scenes, songs or even just to here the voices. The visuals were breathtakingly stunning from the nature to the stage nothing was left unchecked. You will also love it for it being a breath of fresh air from all the agsty, cliche driven dramas that can leave you raw, irritated or just too worked up or invested. You will love it for its easy to watch, simple shy love plot with no room for drama. You will absolutely love it for the worth the wait skinship as patience is rewarded. You will love it if you love first shy, uncomplicated, happy love stories ---this will be the drama for you.
Or you will hate it and wonder what's wrong with the rest of the population. You will get maybe 2 episodes in (if your determined) before the urge to want to throw your pillow at your TV. You will hate it if your looking for a solid plot, aside from two shy people looking to love each other that's as close as it gets. You will hate it for all the miss opportunities to be more (so many story arcs that were there but never elaborated upon -mostly because it would have brought too much depth to a light hearted drama). You will hate the fact that literally everything and every episode revolves around eating, recipes and cooking or talking about it. You may be disgruntled over the fact there is no character growth (especially with the FL) or that the ML does everything for her and she never steps up to do something for him. If you make it this far you will hate how long it takes for the relationship to progress. You may be leary at all the overload of cast members as most didn't really contribute to any substance of the story. You will ultimately hate this series for the length of 31 episodes that could have been told in half the length.
Ultimately it boils down to what is your cup of tea? I personally loved if for the fresh air that it was. I enjoy my angst, and edge of seat plots or series that have me going through the tissues. But it is so refreshing to watch something that is so super sweet you worry it will give you cavities. I didn't mind the lite plot line. I loved the interaction between the leads they had such wonderful chemistry for being spot on for shy lovers and his tenderness overload, I won't lie, had my own heart fluttering.
I hope you are able to find your joy, destress and at the very least listen to some amazing music from this series.
This series was beautifully cinematic with such breath taking veiws of Jeju and the actors were captivating and definitely will take you on an emotional journey.
The only negative I have to say is if you're aiming to watch it for romance you may come away sorely disappointed. The chemistry between the two leads while amazing, it was amazing as best friends overcoming hardships in life. The story tried hard to be romantic but in my humble opinion this was the only part where it was lack luster and had so many missed opportunities to be more. That said, if you go in with the romance somewhere on the back burner, and not the focal point, you will find a gem of a show.
I respect everyone's right to thier own opinion so please understand, I am not judging your comment or score, rather it's placement. So please know that what follows is my own opinion as well and I hope you equally acknowledge my right to it.
I feel your "review" is a bit of a disservice to those who are looking for looking for an actual review of the series. I don't think having only watched 3 episodes would qualify as a review, similarly to having a book critic read only the first three chapters of a book before publishing their review, or a food critic only tasting one bite of one dish before writing a review of a restaurant. None of these would be considered acceptable or fair to the people being reviewed or the people reading the reviews would it? This truly should be in the comment section and not the review section. In my opinion, a review should be based on the series as a whole so people can actual get good informative opinions and information.
You also have listed that you watched all 16 episodes, if this is accurate and you went back and watched the whole series I would like to see your updated opinion, if not, you should really consider correcting you watch number so people know before reading your comment that it is based on only 3 episodes as it is a bit misleading.
I hope your next post you persevere through the whole series to write a review, while I only viewed your post as more of a comment on the series, I still rather enjoyed reading it.
I truly enjoyed this short series. For what it is, it is better than alot of longer series that leave you with a headache or wondering how you can get back your lost time. This isn't one of those. The leads had great chemistry and the plot flowed seamless from beginning to end. My only negative would be (spoiler alert ahead***) the excessive amount of times the ML lied or kept the truth from the FL. He never changed his ways from start(pretending to pass out on the wedding night) to finish(Pretending to be dead) never did he regret or apoligize for this. There was never any growth to his character, but there was for the FL. Aside from this one flaw, it was a great watch.
