I'm not sure how I feel about the FL at the moment... I enjoy strong FLs but I hope she does not cross the line towards too much scheming and using the people around.

With Viki releasing the final episode, I was finally able to finish this drama.
While I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it, I can’t help finding it a bit underwhelming. It’s not even that easy to explain why exactly, but I was hoping for something that would suck me in, make me feel unable to wait for every single episode, really invested in all the plots, intrigues and characters and yet… It didn’t, really.
Prince Pathetic stayed pathetic until the very end, the scene of his death made me happier than anything else in the drama. Honestly, I can’t help wishing he had actually died in that fire instead of faking his death because it would have meant that I didn’t have to watch him again. Though, even his death was pathetic. It’s been a while since there was a character that I didn’t enjoy as much as I enjoy this one. And don’t get me wrong – nothing against the actor, he didn’t do a bad job with what he had, really. But geez, the character.
And just when it seemed that the sister is finally showing a semblance of reason, it all went completely out the window. She may have grown up a tiny, little bit but I guess there’s no cure for being hopelessly dumb.
The Empress with her guilty conscience… You made your bed, now you have to lie in it. I have to say, I enjoyed the young Emperor, though. Was he perfect? No. Did he make mistakes? Surely. But at least he was willing to acknowledge that he was not perfect, that he was inexperienced and had a lot to learn, which is always nice to see when it comes to a character like this. Especially when his mother’s attitude was the exact opposite. I only wish her end was a bit more satisfying. It was really nice to see Lin Muran in a more positive role. I mean, he was fun as a complete psycho but he was just as fun here. I think I’m gonna keep an eye on the guy, he’s very enjoyable to watch.
The Li Mountain’s plot really would have worked better as some poison planted by the Empress, or anyone else, really. Especially when one considers Ye Li being completely immune to whatever disease they were all killed by. And yes, I know that sometimes, some people do seem to be immune but to have her display no symptoms whatsoever is just a crappy plot armour at its finest. It was nice that they ended the drama with reopening the academy, though. That part I liked.
And finally, the main couple. I feel like I’m going to be eaten alive as I say that, but I’ve seen Cheng Lei paired with a lot of different actresses and while I can’t say they are absolutely terrible together, him and Bai Lu is just not it. I didn’t hate them but I can’t say that I enjoyed them, either. It was nice that the actors both dubbed themselves, that’s something I always enjoy, but the pairing just didn’t really buy me.
Mo Xiuyao himself was fun, really. I can’t help wishing that there were more scenes like that wheelchair fight – that whole episode, really, was one of the best in the drama in my eyes. I’m a bit disappointed that most of his power really came after he was cured but oh well. Ye Li, on the other hand, has gotten very bland as the drama progressed. She was fun at the start when she was enacting all of her little schemes, and as we came towards the end of the drama, she completely lost any kind of flavour. I can’t help finding it a bit disappointing.
Overall, it was a nice and enjoyable drama and I like that they did what a lot of dramas fail to do – give the characters closure as far as their plots go, including the side characters. It was just that, though – nice, enjoyable, but at the same time, nothing particularly special.
What? Viki won't have episodes anymore until when?
Usually, when Viki picks up a drama, towards the end of it there are a few days (tend to be around the time when the express comes) when there are no episodes, and then they release a single episode a day until the end. I'm just guessing that the pattern won't break for this one, but I may be wrong.

Exactly. I understand the idea of honour and them not wanting to ask for help but as a plot device, killing them off should serve a bigger purpose and I don't think the purpose is to just showcase how much Ye Li suffered etc. Or it would be waste of potential.

I don't know, I'm not convinced the Empress had nothing to do with the Li Mountain's fate beyond the obvious of being the reason why they made the choices they did.
I imagine Viki's going to have its typical few days of no episode after today's. Shame but oh well.
I doubt they're going to offer any answers in this regard, and I imagine they're simply going to leave it at "plot armour", but I can't help feeling curious how come that every single person on the Li Mountain got sick, and yet she didn't have any symptoms at all, as if she had some kind of magic immunity to whatever illness they were all wiped out by. I also can't help feeling like they could have at least made her somewhat sick too, but with everyone in such a bad state and all, they just figured that she's the only one that shows any chance of saving or something along those lines. Unless they end up surprising me in future episodes.
For all the fake deaths in this drama, it's a shame that the one character that was actually enjoyable and could have had a fun plot, appears to have actually genuinely been killed.

And agreed. It's why I have mixed feelings about them as a couple - she just hides so much, manipulates him at times even, and it just doesn't sit that well with me. It's understandable that at the beginning, there is lack of trust but I would expect for that to be changing.
Of course he still lives, it would be too good to be true for Prince Pathetic to be dead.
I'm waiting for the time when Ye Li and Mo Xiuyao start working together. They're investigating the same things, it would be so much faster if they just put their efforts together lol
