That well timed phone call whenever something important is about to happen or be said ????
Ugh yes that's so annoying. Both parties know that you're in the middle of an important conversation, why can't you just reject the call & tell the person "don't stop, tell me; complete what you were saying".
I get annoyed with the run to pharmacy thing. How does nobody have basic first aid, cold cough medicines ? & with the way Koreans are portrayed eating & drinking, I expect every1 to carry antacids, digestives & hangover medicines. Recently in My Id is Gangnam beauty the FL Mi Rae shrugged off both Male leads while they were locked in a wrist grab moment. It was very satisfying.
What's wrong with Secretary Kim can also be an example of so many of these.... He tries to wiggle & demand his way, tries to tell her she likes him first, annoys her but acts like a gentleman..... No wonder wo many people loved it. ????
Lol about Something in the Rain ????????????I too can't tell you why Joon Hee would like Jin-Ah. Maybe because they're the kind of people who don't change at their core (reas bad bf choices & man whore tendencies) After all the only reason HE gives us is because she is pretty. He never elaborates if it's soul or personality he finds sweet. This is the show that could have been so good but it went downhill from ep 10.
No 1 bothers me too SO MUCH! Love O2O is one of my favourites too, & I just wish she'd kiss him back. It doesn't even have to be passionate, but just the body language screams forced & it's hard to get past that.
I've heard that the finger between smallest finger & middle finger on your left hand has a nerve that connects to the heart (which I think is total bullshit) so that's why it's considered the ring finger in Asian countries I think. The divorce is thing is an issue for most Asian cultures, because people think that the woman must be lacking if she could not make the marriage last. Similarly if the man is too old (32-35is considered old by my relatives) then also people speculate that something must be wrong if he hasnt married till now.
My unpopular opinion is about Descendants of the sun. I watched the drama thrice & I still don't understand the hype. The first lead story did not convince me much. I never felt the deep love. I got attraction, a what could have been & for the most part I found the first FL really practical, but she & ML never talked about things that would make a relationship. Even if his job was classified, they never talked about the rest of their lives. The second pair though? I absolutely believed that these two people love each other deeply, understand each other & that status & ego are keeping them apart.
This is not the same, but I loved Suji from This is my first life more than the actual female lead. Similarly I liked Won seok more than the male lead. I absolutely agree about the first 2 choices. I have mad respect for Qin Hua's character.
I think this article just brushes the surface and simplifies the complex subject of deciding whether a character…
I absolutely agree with your examples. Nak Won from Come & Hug Me came to my mind as well considering this juxtaposition. She's a strong female lead character even though she hasn't been shown to have physical strength.
I think I unconsciously refrained from putting my opinion which you spotted. In regards to your questions, since…
You're right, we expect too much from fictional characters sometimes. And yes, male actors are not criticized heavily while I've seen very harsh words for the females. I don't know how to say this, but as a society we are made to mark female related things as weak. If a guy cries, he's sensitive but if a girl does she's weak. If a woman stands her ground then she's a bitch, but if a man does then he's respected. Isn't it a bit hypocritical of us as an audience to say that forgiving, gentle & kind female characters are weak? (I remember in Chicago Typewriter when the ML decides not to expose the other writer, he was not bashed by the audience. However if a FL does the same things she's bashed heavily for it.) Even though it's because of the done to death stereotype, still that's something we should think about.
Your article talked about stereotypical female characters in 2 short sentences, but it doesn't express your opinion on what you consider strong or weak. Are we talking about character, disposition, demeanour or attitude? Because strength can be defined in many ways. For eg : 1) in What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, Kim Miso accepts a lot of criticism & unnecessarily apologizes to her boss for years, & does a good job despite this. This makes her a good secretary. But the same obliging attitude towards him doesn't make her a strong partner in the romantic sense. 2) Another thing about strong vs weak characters. Is being prideful & not asking for help & taking sudden drastic measures a sign of strength or weakness? The FL in Because-this-is-my-first-life becomes homeless & is almost raped. Instead for asking help from her friends, she chooses marriage. At the time I thought it was because they were mean girl type friends & not very genuine, but they later show us that their friendship is real indeed 3) In the dramas where the girl is bullied & stays true to her studies, is she weak for not making a fuss when she realistically knows there will be no help or is she strong for enduring it? Similarly, the girl who goes through verbal abuse, bad family life but stays optimistic, Is she strong for maintaining a cheerful manner, or weak for not trying to make herself physically stronger? Strength is a matter of perspective. 4) Strength & Goodness don't go hand in hand. For eg in Chicago Typewriter the FL harasses the ML, barges into his home :that's stalker behavior. But she saves his life, she's a woman who gets things done. So even though she's a sassy strong woman, she isn't good imo. She can't overcome her own fear of guns or cries of animals she put to death - she doesn't seek therapy for it. Is she strong for figuring out new ways of self employment or weak for giving up when her career choices trouble her?
OK, so I have just watched up to ep 30...Why the hell would they leave Qi zhen alive after telling him all the…
That's exactly what I thought too. Leaving Qi Zhen alive is gonna be so bad for them later on. That man is a master manipulator, he's going to be trouble. They really should have finished him off.
Those who watched up to ep 34:Help, I'm bawling. A part of me hates Ethan for not attempting to rescue Yang Mi…
But why did the Xunji princess trick her? I don't understand. I also want FY to get a little vengeance on Wuji, but oh the couple heart ???? She does slap him later & hit him when she's drunk in ep 36, so maybe that's enough? Tianquan's King reminds me of Na Moo's father in Come & Hug me, anybody else?
From the melo to death promo poster, I expected psycho dad to kill NM. I almost expect it now. That dad has a twisted love for NM, & after years & years of being ignored, & what with him still protecting NW, I feel like he'll try to murder both of them together. The character may be weak, but he has a strong screen presence, & just his mention is enough to turn my stomach. I love crime shows, but I've never felt psycho vibes so strongly before. & that reporter is definitely a psychopath : her murder weapon is a pen.
What a new villian ????? Please let them get over their family problems and love problems and tragic past problems…
I feel like yoon hi jae has a fan club, & he's manipulating them to do his dirty work. Now we've seen two guys who are doing the terrorising & criminal activities, so I don't think it's a case of lone rabid psycho fan anymore.
