Character wise, CX always felt more human and relatable. It was just a matter of time before he reached his breaking point. Tbh I'm surprised he lasted this long. I don't know how to dislike this guy.
Also, if XY had known his feelings sooner I think this wouldn't have happened. It's just so hard for me believe she never noticed all this time.
