Saw a quote online: "Even the nicest people have their limits...once you reach that point, they're also the scariest when they've had enough."
I think this is where Wei Rao is heading.
By constantly killing the people around Wei Rao and pushing WR to her breaking point, the Empress is basically turning WR into Jun Dai 2.0, but a much scarier and dangerous version at that.
(I mean, as mentioned by some commenters already, just LOOK at her eyes when the Empress walked away...)
Honestly I was hoping Wei Rao would talk a little bit about: "*Just*...a maid? That was a living, breathing person a day ago. That's human life we're talking about. High positions of power tend to make people forget the sanctity of it all...but I hope Consort, you, never forget it. PLUS, she got me through the darkest period of my life,"
Kinda surprised Wei Rao didn't flip-out over Consort's comment.
Wei Rao unalived the man who tried to r**e her in the early episode, without feeling remorse afterward.Wei Rao…
I think "violence" and "craziness" are 2 completely different things though. What Jun Dai offers is the element of *chaos*. Yes, Jun Dai is unhinged, but that's part of her charm.
For me, (although it'll probably never happen), I wanna see that when push comes to shove, Wei Rao can ALSO be unhinged to the point where Lu Zhuo (or the audience) thought for a second, "woah, I'm seeing glimpses of Jun Dai within her...but it feels much more deliberate?"
I don't know how to describe it. I just think it's bit of a shame that we (probably) won't see anything like Jun Dai afterwards.
Even though I know Wei Rao is never gonna be like Jun Dai...
Part of me still wants some of that Jun Dai craziness to return, y'know what I mean?
( Jun Dai is crazy but that's fun to watch! Wei Rao is super careful and composed...maybe give her a few moments to show that, even Wei Rao is capable of *crashing out* like Jun Dai? Instead of reckless insanity, it's *calculated cruelty* to achieve her goal as quickly as possible? )
Granted, this might be against Wei Rao's character...but still. Maybe it's just me.
Finally finished the show. That final gut-punch in episode 40...really hurts, but it was beautiful at the same time. Despite its reputation as an "idol drama", the whole experience is worthy of being in the top 10 for me. Granted, the large-scale fight scenes are still pretty bad (yes, including the final showdown, that's the worst one lol), but it does everything ELSE so well that...I'm willing to forgive it.
You're genuinely telling me, training for <7 years and this person is able to beat 1 and keep up with 2 Divine Detectives simultaneously? Fr? I think Meng Rui got severely nerfed lol.
You'd think after the first 4 episodes, the Divine Detective Bureau would understand, dang, our detectives have 0 resistance to psychic attacks and illusion attacks. Better train them up just in case. NOPE. Business as usual??
Still love the show, but damn, Xuanyuan Shan really didn't see this as a problem lol.
On a side note, the wound in episode 24 is essentially the same as the wounds in the earlier episodes of Riverside Code at Qingming Festival. (literally watched too many dramas smh)

(And I'm all for it)
Edit: the way her eyes twitched due to pure rage...absolute chills.

(I really missed Jun Dai lol)

(Edit: maybe I spoke too soon)
Regardless, the ending was...okay. It was a pyrrhic victory by definition. The final few episodes are low-key messy but overall it was an okay watch.
Roll credits?
