It's not random, Aranya and Chen ye is Dongfeng's shadow. Because of them Dongfeng could have a fragile fate so their story is important. My guess is it end at eps 47/48.

Yeah, and they already make her "nicer" in drama ~ Based on previews and BTS she'll end up with Xiao yan. Xiao yan deserve better !

This is a big spoiler so if you dont want it please dont read.

Aranya and Shen ye is DH and Fengjiu's shadows, that's why its so tragic T_T When Aranya died there is no soul left because she is just a shadow.
Remember in early eps that lord of the Underworld Xie Guchou comes to Fengjiu and tell him about DH going to mortal realm and Fanyin valley ? Fengjiu also give him her shadow to help DH. DH doesn't know about this shadows because Chong lin never told him/Forgot because of the memory potion.

DongFeng is actually not FATED with each others, that's why before the shadow story happened they never really 'meet' each others. Only after Aranya died their unfinished fate somehow changed DongFeng fate that's why starting from Bai Qian's wedding they always coincidentally meet~

If I remember correctly she is from demon clan her real form is a phoenix. She is friends with DH, Zhe yan and Mo yuan at school. Her best friend is DH XD. You could read more from the mini stories posted here, some is by Tang qi herself, some is written by fans.
