I think Maze and Phab get each other out of their comfort zone and they fall for their opposite. Maze just a stiff upper lip. Phab is really feel for Maze when he draws Maze's picture... Maze was drunk and felt vulnerable after meeting up with Neung again after all these years. I think you are right that the novel has Maze's feeling develop first.

I believe that it was made from a Japanese animation cartoon book by by Hanaa Yukii. I read it as a kid over 20 years ago. I did remember the open scene that Maze thought he saw a murder taking place... I remember the book right away.

F4 Thailand version is such a super fancy made. Crowded sponsors. Love it!! I think they nailed it with the F4 cast, Thyme & Ren are it!... I don't think I agree with the cast of Gorya... I think she yells a lot when it is supposed to be a strong dialogue... I don't convert yelling to powerful.... that's just me.
I also love the casts of the Chinese version (Meteor Garden), especially the Lui & Dao Ming Si. They fit like a glove! Their Lui/Ren is absolutely and makes that character perfect.

Kavin will have his section later on toward the 3rd quarter of the story. He is a biggest playboy for a reason... I love this version of Kavin. Win is doing a decent job.
YET they should be true to the original story. F4 are close BUT Ren/Lui is the closet friend . Ren is exceptionally smart but he has a mind autism. Thyme is raised in a pressure upbringing... so Ren keeps Thyme calm while Thyme silently understand Ren. Thyme & Ren are a closer pair.
I get that there is Bright + Win thing BUT this is an extraordinary novel and that should be treat with respect to the original plot.
- That's why Thyme is mad at Ren for protecting Gorya but he wouldn't cross Ren. Their fight at Mira party is the significant because the time before when they fight was when they were 5 year old over a toy. - That's why Thyme is mad, sad and happy for Ren all at once when Ren decided to go France to pursue Mira... - That's why Thyme has such an inner conflict when he feel threatened by Ren as his heart archenemy.... because he loose the person that he talks to about his thought. - Later on, u may get to see when Thyme is happy with his gift, Thyme ran to tell Ren first... among all... Ren is his closet friend.
I watched several versions for the Boys Over Flowers, including the animation book in the 1990s... the title in Japanese has several interpretations. "Hana Yori Dango " is the original title. - Nice guys is better than pretty guys. - Dungo means boys, and also mean sweet snack (mochi like) - or the Hana means flowers... and it's pointed to Sakura flower, which is the flower that can be admired but can't be kept/held.
