Fantasy drama with dreamy visuals and emotional themes

I started watching this drama because of Bai Lu who usually gives strong performances. In the beginning, I felt she did a decent job showing her character’s sadness, strength and inner struggle. She looked beautiful in the role and suited the fantasy setting well. However, as the drama went on, her expressions started to feel a bit repetitive. I still like her as an actress but I think this role didn’t show her full potential enough.
On the other hand Dai Lu Wa (Fu Ling) was a major standout for me.
Her character was complex with both strength and vulnerability and she portrayed that balance so well.
Her chemistry with the second male lead was also surprisingly good and their storyline had more emotional weight than I expected. Speaking of the SML his character had more depth and charm than the main male lead even though he wasn’t always in the spotlight.
As for the male lead, while he fit the visual of a cold, mysterious fantasy hero, his character didn’t grow much throughout the series. I felt like he stayed distant emotionally for too long which made it hard to connect with him or root for the main couple. His chemistry with Bai Lu felt a bit flat and their love story didn’t develop naturally.
The romance between them felt underwritten and lacked emotional impact especially in the second half.
It’s not that they were bad actors but the script didn’t give them enough depth or meaningful interactions to make their relationship believable.
Anyway, Moonlight Mystique is a beautiful drama with great production quality and some strong performances.
It’s worth watching if you enjoy fantasy with dreamy visuals and emotional themes.
