I do agree there's no official wedding (maybe because of censorship about intimate things) but the author called her his wife and refers to Zi Ling as dao companion, From my understanding, even we don't see the marriage happening, all of them are his wife/lover. A wedding form can be as simple as a wish, a gift, an arrangement, etc...
