I'm so glad that I went back and watch this movie with my full attention. I had no expectation of where this movie is going to take me, but I didn't expect for it to be a sad story. definitely worth the watch and patience to see the greatness of the plot.

They are similar, both are based off of real history but with twists and turns added obviously. and yeah, forbidden romance after the female lead was married off to the emperor rather than her lover.

FL is a sorceress and ML fell in love with her. But he can’t marry her since he is a prince, chaos also happened at their wedding so the FL did some magic and turned back time. As a result, everyone’s memory of her were wiped out. She’ll have to guide herself to not repeat history and help the ML solve cases and injustices. She then fell in love with the ML again when she promised herself not to do so since it is a taboo and defeat the purpose of her turning back time. Umm I hope this is good enough aha.

That’s right, most historical dramas are based off of real history but with some dramatic twist and turns. And I do find it kind of painful to watch.

Love and Destiny is a good one, directed by the same director. They also have the same production team so you may see lots of similarities in clothings, settings, and overall quality.

Judging from those photos through the Twitter link, the clothings they wear kind of look like the Ming Dynasty but I'm not too sure.

I was a little disappointed towards the end when the ML started to care about the FL less. But at least they got together in the end.

Probably because Story of Yanxi Palace have a more energetic and witty female lead, rather than this one where Ruyi is seen as a bit timid and "boring".
