Did anyone watch the Kdrama Goblin? Lol that scene with Duan Xu fighting through wind and snow to make his way back to Simu reminded me so much of when the Goblin fought to come back to his love after he “perished”.

How come Chen Ying didn’t become a jellyfish immediately after death?

Why Duan Xu cannot be a spirit like Chen Ying? His first desire was for peace and later his dream was to be with He Si Mu so wouldn’t that make him bound to an obsession? Or would he have moved on and not become a spirit because both dreams were realized?

Can someone explain…

They should collaborate in a modern series

Yeah I think people like intriguing grey characters and seeing him show his full potential in talent and wit. I do too, but I also appreciate seeing him come out of that shell he was clearly hiding behind.

I heard. But it would have been fine if they just combined it in one ep to save us from the grief! Hahaha

I still have a few episodes left to watch but I just want to show my appreciation for Duan Xu. Our little golden retriever. I've been seeing some comments expressing disappointment over his character trajectory/development. I can definitely see where the sentiments are coming from because he was introduced as a fierce and cunning general, someone who hides all of his complexities behind a smile. But later on, we see him focusing almost entirely on his love for Simu.

NGL ep 8 was Duan Xu's episode (actor did a great job) and I kinda missed seeing that layered character too.

However, I think that's the whole point. The person we see in the beginning isn't his true self, but the outcome of pain and torment. Someone who is trying to find normalcy and redemption after being abandoned and having his hands stained with blood. We get to see more of his true self after meeting Simu. It's ironic because loving the Ghost King doesn't really steer him in the direction of normalcy, but she is the one person who brings him inner peace. Someone he can be vulnerable around and completely himself. He was finally able to move on from that past. And his love was a big focal point (from what I heard about the novel). I admire him because he was someone who was deprived of love and almost lost himself as an assassin, but can love so fiercely.

The last few eps were so tragic :( I don't know if I can watch them all to the entirety ahaha. I wonder why they decided to end it like that with an extra episode. Couldn't they just include them all in one episode with Duan Xu coming back to life at the end (like the original)? I don't understand the logic of having two different endings. They should either stick to one (like the original) or leave it as is.

I might be missing something but if Duan Xu dies (and having such an attachment to Simu) wouldn't he be the same as Chen Ying and end up a spirit in the Void? Sounds morbid, but they technically can all be together there.

Also what was Zi Ji's overall purpose? Why is she with the Feng Yi?

Yeah not the typical angst you see in i.e. xian xia romances. Which is nice and refreshing!

So touching! He loves her so fiercely and deeply it hurts 😭 nice to see a “green forest” ML like this. Refreshing.

Gosh I have so many eps I need to catch up on. But skimmed through some of the newer eps and Duan Xu is such a sweet golden retriever. Clingy boy but not forceful. Always seeking to see and understand He Simu and express his unwavering love. His persistence is the one thing that allowed him to survive all this time, and you can see that trait in his love. Is there anyone this steadfast and devoted??? How could she not fall for him?

Heard the actors are still getting hate from some netizens which baffles me. I love their chemistry, they look so good together! Trying hard not to ship them looool.

I should prob read the novel, from some excerpts I read it looks like the drama is pretty faithful to the original?

The OSTs have been on repeat for me, so hauntingly beautiful especially 万灵之上 (Above All Spirits) - 黄霄云 (Huang Xiaoyun) which was first played in ep 1. There are just some OSTs that speak to you from the get go and this was one of them haha.

Anyone watched the Kdrama series Hotel del Luna? This drama reminds me a lot of it since it also covers a story about a FL who is an immortal ghost and a mortal ML. Great drama that also had a great OST soundtrack.

Also enjoying the little fights between Duan Xu and Yan Ke. Simu has a golden retriever and big bad wolf fighting over her hahah

Does anyone know if this is in line with the novel? From the snippets of the book it looks like this is change right? Simi doesn’t cry over him til the end. I even saw leaked bts videos where she cries over an older Duan Xu - I don’t think he ages in the novel

I love it too! The costumes are amazing and Reba is so gorgeous! Nice seeing her take on this kinda role. Love the whole plot in the Void - fantasyland
