Not sure which direction they will take his character given what has happened. It almost seems like they wanna give him a redemption arc because his character was more grey in the novel, where he focused more on his best interests and safety (romance was never a priority or considered a possibility even though he did have feelings for HY).

If they follow the book, then they will not be on the same side. They were destined to walk different paths

Given how much of a role he has gotten I wonder why he wasn’t asked to promote the drama with the main cast at the events

Altho I will say his character was well written in the novel, but didn’t take up the limelight of the main leads. Every scene he showed up in made sense and had purpose. Perhaps they are promoting the actor??

Their chemistry was beyond my expectation - so happy. And they have been so generous with the promotional photos and content, I can’t help but ship them (down that shipping rabbit hole which I know is a futile move but I just love them so much!)

The original story doesn’t have a lot of kiss scenes. The love was normally shown in little gestures. The underwater kiss was their “first kiss” so pretty accurate so far but I believe the drama has 3 real ones prepped (more than what the novel had) so let’s wait and see!

I dunno if it’s the script or writing but it doesn’t help that his expressions look lkke a lost puppy majority of the time. He was actually the opposite - always friendly and smiling hiding his emotions

He was written a lot bette in the novel. He did try to create problems and approached HY but was more focused on his own goals and was a much more layered character there. Wish they made the most of him here, but he seems to be just a romantic plot device

It’s interesting how the actor wasn’t involved in the promotional activities with the main cast given how much screentime he has. Even Ying Xiang was in some of the events. Maybe he was busy.

But yeah, I wish they made the most out of his character - as he was written to be a lot more layered and interesting in the novel

Yep^ exactly HY wanted to find a way to reveal her identity to the Emperor with minimal backlash. But in the novel, XJ intercepted that letter as he already made plans that would guarantee her safety and also seal the deal with getting a marriage decree

That would make sense, hence they threw in that painting CZ made (which didn’t exist in the novel)

I mean at least for the drama I would assume it’s because she doesn’t want anyone to know about her whereabouts yet. She had to plan her revenge/seek justice which will take time.

Lol the novel itself didn’t have many kiss scenes, more of a mature slow burn romance shown through little gestures, but we will get some soon. In fact i think the drama added more than what we got in the novel

Yes XJ is awkward with his family in general because he grew up outside of their home (training hard with his shifus - something his father arranged so XJ could take over as the heir in the future since Xiao Jing is more of a scholar and not physically fit to be a general).

But despite that XJ really cares about his family and has a good bond with his bro

STT and CLS never got together, like our other friend here commented - they were on the same page about breaking off the engagement. She ended up marrying HY’s brother (from HY’s second life) named He Yun Sheng - this character was removed since there is no rebirth in the adaptation.

Lol the He siblings shared similar features and STT fell in love. Fun fact, STT didn’t know about HY’s female identity til much later so she was truly in love with HY.

Yeah he wasn’t as aggressive and rash like in the drama, they made him a little one dimensional here

Yeah he was but he miraculously survived prob through medical help and luck

At least in the novel, if I remember correctly, it’s because HY took the liberty of joining the army etc under his name. Being in the battlefield wasn’t his life goal so when he took back his name he had to continue the life he didn’t choose. But ofc he was also greedy and ended up liking the fame and fortune, he didn’t want to lose it. Knowing she was still alive and talented, it threatened him. Time was not on the drama’s side to dive into every character’s motives and development, so may feel superficial
