Hahaha they merged his lines from different scenes in the novel here. I will say he was more teasing/sarcastic…
Glad you know what I meant haha! For those who didn’t read the novel, it honestly doesn’t matter because who doesn’t love an expressive and gentle man? I appreciate this slight change too, but am so used to his more teasing responses and subtle gestures of affection
in the novel - he is already a kept man 7 years later - he has the childcare duties (willingly)
Yes! I loved how they challenged gender norms of that era - HY would teach their daughter swordsmanship and things and XJ would take care of what their daughter ate, wore etc
In the novel, the Emperor granted their marriage and also promoting He Yan to Marquis at the same time
I guess they made this change so that CZ can try to get a marriage decree for him and HY resulting in getting punched by XJ (guessing this based on the drama trailer)
I have a bad habit of shutting my brain during sub plots so I few things I wanna askIs Chu Zhao loyal to his master…
I cannot speak for the drama as it seems like they have changed his character’s trajectory compared to the novel. In the novel, he only focused on himself and his own interest/safety (therefore needing power to protect himself). He had a rough childhood and not the best relationship with his own mom, so grew up to be the way he was. He was not loyal to anyone.
He was in love with HY tho but never became delusional as he always knew where her heart lied. He did jokingly try but focused on his goals more (in a way he knew his path was always in darkness, and hers is light)
There have been hints of CZ going down this route in a few episodes
Yeah that’s exactly what I meant haha it doesn’t make any sense, they degraded him to such a character (I really dislike these tropes). It’s fine to make changes in an adaptation but it has to make sense
Random comment: Xiao Jue is stiff, not ML quality.Xiao Jue: Now the moon belongs to you.In my life, the only person…

They make CZ a lovesick and delusional character. In the novel he is rather more calculating and manipulative…
Preferred him in the novel - he is now a one dimensional romantic plot device - I would rather spend that time on the main plot and character development

Ugh why do they have to drag on an unnecessary love triangle lol, it wasn’t like this in the original. Disappointed with the direction they took with his character, he had a lot of potential. I want to see more of him and his other goals/motives which were always his priority in the novel.
During Xiao Jue and the emperor's secret meeting, they talk as if he knew that He Yan is female, but is it because…
The emperor only knew because XJ told him (at least in the novel). Lol maybe it got lost in translation or the emperor just didn’t look surprised enough haha
Lmao there ya go we got our long awaited kiss scenes! This was more than what was supposed to happen in the original so I am sure we are all ecstatic!
However! I am quite disappointed with the direction they are taking CZ and HRF’s characters. CZ being obsessive over HY (to the point of madness - from the next eps previews) and HRF having a tantrum and being reckless every 5 seconds. They had a lot more potential (especially CZ who was much more layered than this, and he would never go crazy over HY even if he is in love with her). I understand there is a need for change things in the adaptation due to time constraints but this was a little unnecessary. Anyone feel the same? Even without the novel in mind, it is a little cliche.
Given how much of a role he has gotten I wonder why he wasn’t asked to promote the drama with the main cast…
I am just guessing! Don’t want to start anything here because I could be wrong. No idea if it’s to highlight his character more or the actor or both. But I can only say that his scenes had more of a purpose in the novel and did not take away from our leads
