I think it's definitely disrespectful for an original gay only Manhwa to be adapted differently with straight elements so I can understand the rage some people have regarding this.
However, for some non-manhwa readers, the drama itself is pretty good for the 2 episodes, not considering on such external factors to ruin the experience due to the low rating.
I don't think this can be compared with High School Return of a Gangster since that one is BLgaybaiting to me, unlike this one with true BL element. It's just not a pure BL with all gay couples. Of course, if there's too much of a focus on the straight instead of the actual BL, I will lower my rating. But for now, I won't deny that I like it in the more realistic direction. Call it lazy writing or not, but changing story still need alittle bit more work than copying everything 1 for 1. I am not justifying that it's okay to change, but I am also not that ick that they are doing things in this direction. Doing it to appeal for the mass or to get funding to create such production, regardless, thanks to adapting it, then I got to know about this drama and partial of the original story. I am a visual person, so regardless if the manhwa is pure gay or not, I still won't read as I only get to enjoy when I can see actual people moving.
I just find it interesting that if there is an issue or if you don't like something, don't you just give it a bad rating and move on to something that you shall watch?
There's no wrong or correct on our individual's preferences regarding on realism or escapism BL. Yes, I get that this story originally should have been gay only and there shouldn't been any straight stuff going on. But you do you, we do we? I have watched some BLs with 2 gay couples and only gay couples but if I don't like it, I just drop it. Some story with good original BL (based on your definition of BL) turns out to have either bad story or acting, and I am sorry that I happen to like this despite how the adaptation differs from original pure BL content.
I just don't understand the point of hovering in a drama constantly just to throw shade on that same point over and over again when the issue won't be resolved just by criticising it here repeatedly. We get it but we still can enjoy this for those who wanna enjoy this yeah? Or you want us to boycott this with you? Criticism is absolutely fine, but at this point it can get quite toxic...
Again, you are absolutely right as this drama indeed should have just adapted 1 for 1 instead of changing or adding anything "wrong" or extra, creating problems. But if there's nothing we can do about it, let's learn to cope and move on accordingly. You have your absolute rights to be upset about this issue that can't be changed because they already did it, but others also have their rights to determine if they can and/or wanna enjoy this drama still. Peace everybody? 😅
"When Life Gives You Tangerines (Netflix) is based on a true story.
Ae-soon and Gwan-sik were inspired by a real couple from Jeju Island. Her name was Hong Kyung-ja. She was born in 1950. Her life was hard from the start. She lost her mother at five. She raised her younger siblings. She dove for octopus and sold them to buy food. She wasn’t allowed to go to school but she fought for it anyway.
She fell in love with a boy she grew up with. He was also a diver. They dated for six years before getting married. He supported her through everything. Even when she became a village leader, he stood by her. In 2002, he was given an award for being a loving husband. They had three children and built a quiet, strong life together.
Seven years ago, he died.
The show followed the same path. Gwan-sik also died first. This made the story even more painful for those who knew the truth.
The drama is not just fiction. It’s a tribute. To a love that was real. To a woman who gave everything. And to a man who stayed."
Based on a true story, but how the production of timeline shown back and forth to the audience is an Art. Masterpiece
That seemed so out of character. Who goes running around town in their very silky pajamas? Then again, he was…
It truly is, but at some circumstances it does make sense that one will forget what they were wearing when it comes to something that matters more. I actually can relate to that
Comedic effect or not I am liking it. He alr justified that he hasn't been whom he was after falling for her.
I am not straight and I have no issues with this drama thankfully cause I never saw the manhwa. I actually found it quite nice and was hook on the first ep.
That best friend being straight will give alot of attention to the ML secret admirer (ML2) which I think will elevate that effect when ML found out he will like that someone whom paid alot of attention to him.
I like that it's siding towards the more realistic side of diversity where there is also GL etc. such that I can relate.
Falling for a male straight best friend is so relatable. While it might not turn out to have any progress between the two, I would have like my best friend to be able to accept who I am if he were to find out that I am not straight. It's a 1 sided feeling that I know I would need to control if I ever fall for that straight male in ML's shoes, except that I don't have any one whom like me at that point while in school.
I like how some straight shows include side BL (although it might be censored) just to show acceptance and diversity, so I am the kind where I also do not have any issue for a BL drama to have a side straight included as diversity too. Realistically, any kind of person exist, regardless of sexuality orientation. And if people like those straight people can accept who I am, I am more than happy.
I will probably get blasted for siding this and seemingly thrashing others BL Haven (since drama don't need to be realistic and they want escapism) but personally, I like the impact the drama so far has shown me.
Okay, I have a question about the hairstyle. Was curly hair for women and that frizzy look for men a trend at…
I think they are used to show what period of time they were in, to depict their age and maturity (despite acting of the same age in real life)
For example if you were to compare Daughter-in-law at the last episode when she cared about her father with that hair, you can tell she is an adult with elegance and maturity now.
But she is still the same person of the same age just acting younger or older. The hairstyle kinda elevate that effect.
I see you often here, you’re a Kim seonho fan uplifting Kim seonho here and dragging park bogum fans unprovoked…
Sure, my apology then if I didn't get it right.
Toxic Fandom and his overall fandom there's difference.
I am sure you are able to see time to time PBG obsessive fans whining about PBG screen time as well. My comment was based on someone asking individual episodes compared to overall. Overall there's PBG so it's great, but individual episode wise there's hardly PBG so it also make sense if they wanna down vote that episode because they don't see him

I'm neither fan nor hater, don't assume.
Volume 1 being at the most bottom doesn't mean it's bad. It's just based on story wise, how emotional I felt based on tears of loss and tears of feeling touch. If I am KSH fan, why would Volume 3 be at the 3rd place ffs.
Never did I arrange that order rating based on which volume is the best. I said it's based on how much I shed my tears. Can tell you are the PBG fan while I am fairly neutral following the plot.
The most beautiful story I have ever watch regarding on something realistic
9.9/10 if I can rate beyond +-0.5 range.
0.1 off for not being perfect but there's no way anything can be that perfect, but perfectly imperfect and imperfectly perfect is what this drama is for me.
Truly rewatch worthy if I want to feel how home and life is like again
Deserve 9.5 and above
Come on 🥰

But this Gem deserves higher! Let's go new watchers and anyone whom haven't finished watching this. Best realistic drama of all time
🤣

Nothing to do with actors but just based on feelings and conclusion to an end

Volume 4
Volume 2
Volume 3
Volume 1
Is how my volume of tears tell me that I am an ordinary human, and I know how to feel (I usually don't shed tears easily IRL)
Thank you to the production team and cast for this wonderful piece of work that I won't forget. Hope everyone gets the award they deserve. ❤️

She is a celebrity and a "product" of good karma where one reap what they sow
