I'm living for the day Wang Duo can have an arc that ends well, maybe even a ML role, but that isn't going to be this drama. Oh, well, having him and Yang Yang in the same drama is already a win.

I've been anticipating this drama for so long I'm having a hard time starting it tonight. Like I have some weird anxiety about it being good, IDK. 😂 Don't come at me, Who Rules The World is among my favorites and I adore Yang Yang and Wang Duo. People who don't like YY's acting can scroll on by, thank you.

Someone who has read the apparently INCREDIBLY LONG NOVEL...does this have an HEA? I guess even if the novel does, who knows "when" in the novel the ending for this will be, or if we'll get a S2...I'm just going to have to go in and hope for the best.

I know this isn't a romance, and I'm fine with that, just wondering if there is romance subplot(s) in the novel?

@maidenesque I realize this is an oooold thread now, but have you SEEN the new promo stills for The Immortal Ascension with Wang Duo?! Looks like he's playing...a bad guy? But he's also pictured opposite the SFL so I'm going to hope like crazy he has some kind of complex storyline in this and maybe even an actual romance arc, we'll see.

Yeah, I've seen it! I watched it after someone recced it on the Embrace the Dark Night page, I think. But these are the only three dramas I can think of with this plot. As many "billionaire CEO contract marriage" dramas are out there, you'd think a few more of these action romances would get made, lol.

This show is clearly written from the exact same playbook as Embrace in the Dark Night, and you know what? I'm here for it. The chemistry is 🔥, and it's just different enough (after the time jump) that it's not EXACTLY the same. When I watched Embrace, I said "Man, where are the other dramas like this one? We need more action/thriller romance like this." And here it is. If this was all out, I would mainline the whole thing in one go. Alas, must wait for episodes to drop. Already went for the Express package, lol.

Right? They've each mentioned each other in such ways that make me think "oh, is this going to be a pairing?" She thinks he's the worst kind of rake, and he thinks she's annoying and interfering, lol.

SO many really good ones out there! For modern day, the ones you mention are some of the best there is. The Best Thing was also very good this year. But honestly, The First Frost is probably my favorite modern cdrama I've watched and nothing much compares (except Hidden Love, but it had a completely different vibe). It was just so well done. You might also check out Amidst a Snowstorm of Love.

Oh, wow. Well I have the opposite experience. I have loved every episode. Maybe this just isn't the right drama for you.

It is, but the novel has wildly different characterization for him and storylines that have been changed, such as with his cousin.

I think part of it is oblivious - he's literally lived his whole life in war and is established to avoid women and taverns. I don't think this guy has any romantic experience. And I think part of it is avoidance. It's too late for him, he already loves her, but he's avoiding confronting that because of guilt attached to the deaths of his grandfather, father, and brother.

Maybe the short form dramas are more your style. Long form dramas are slow burn.
