Rewatching S1 again, it is rather heartbreaking to see the young Cangxuan and Xiaoyao in ep 1, how pure their love for each other is and knowing what is to come for them in S2...also I had forgotten how stunning the music was.

Yep, I think if they could have brought in Haoyue earlier into the story with more to do it would have been a more satisfying climax. But I guess ran out of time lol

I'm guessing we are getting our ultimate villainess? I wonder if her story is somehow more deeply related to the overall story or if she is just ending arc of the show. I guess if there is any criticism I have of the story is the unevenness of it all. Some the best parts are the quiet, domestic scenes in the Hua family. The political story that the ML is mostly involved in has not really clicked thematically for me with the Hua family story (other than the paranoid Emperor who I guess ties it all together). I'll guess I'll have to wait and see, never read the novel.
