Not sure I understand, why would she not think of him as the sweetest guy? She will have interactions with him in the 2002 timeline (so maybe there are sweet moments that we haven’t seen yet). In 1997 they only met a few times and he was a recent graduate who seemed very career-oriented and introverted. 5yrs later he was Captain of the police team.
