Agree to disagree. By that logic all people in love are not in their "right mind". He's chosen to be the person in the relationship giving more. That's just how it is sometimes.

I get concern for a person you've seen fall apart after a breakup and you think they keep making the same mistakes for the same person but that's something all of his friends have to accept or stop being friends with him.
