Thanks to the author of this article for starting the conversation here. I've felt this same way watching endless…
Which dramas do you think get it right? I'm neither familiar with trauma or dramas in this genre, but I'm definitely interested in seeing good portrayals.
While I'm not sure where the stories for Itaewon class and IOTNBO came from, but I've been following True Beauty since the webtoon started. There are numerous rumors about the original writer Yaongyi wanting to write about herself through Jugyeong's character. As a serialized webtoon, editors at Line/Naver could have had a huge influence on where they took the story to maintain popularity. It's possible none of Yaongyi's intentions came through. I like to give her the benefit of doubt, but I'm also appalled at the full 180 done by the core idea. Instead of questioning beauty standards, the guys' looks are what the story hinges on now.
The beginning is not great but don't let that put you off. It becomes really heartwarming later on, Though a slighly nicer ML from the start wouldn't have hurt.
I think ZXC can bring the 'mood' to every FL he works with
Honestly speaking I did not have high hopes for ZXC because I thought his past contemporary dramas, skate into love was ok, and go ahead was just a dumpster fire after ep 15.
Not yet, probably because it's quite a short drama. But there could be some Tong Hua and Jia Shu interaction based…
From the origin story kinda parts where YSS meets Jia Shu for the first time, it seems as if Tong Hua already knows Jia Shu? Idk if I read that scene right. Hoping for that detail to be relevant somewhere.
2 episodes in and there's already the infamous broken elevator scene lol
This drama is very odd in that the number of tropes seem to decrease as it goes on. Usually it's the other way round as writers scramble to fill episodes, but this one is aging like a fine wine. (till ep 16 at least)
So so good.. this drama is one of the best body swapping dramas I’ve seen. These two seriously embody each other…
I personally think most Chinese dramas get too watered down with useless side couples and flashbacks to reach 30-40 episode lengths. So I'm really happy with the pacing of this drama (though some of the childhood scenes are quite repetitive imo). No denying I would loooove more interaction between them, but at the very least I appreciate the snappy and to the point screenplay.
Just tried rewatching it because I loved this drama when I first watched it a few years ago. Though watching penthouse kinda ruined it because my stupid self seemingly cannot separate SML from joo dan tae. Fffff Still a solid 10/10 drama.
Edit: yikes. just realized that this comment was 2 years old.
